Commercial Description:
Big Bear, as the name implies, is a hefty, black, Russian Imperial-style stout. This strong stout boasts a rich, caramel sweetness lavished by a robust, deep-roasted heartiness you can sink your teeth into... Big Bear's bold flavors are produced using a blend of Belgian and English roasted barley and crystal malts. Some unique flavors come forth in the malt character...Louisiana sweet molasses and dark brown sugar. This dark brew is well hopped with Chinook and Cascade hops, which are somewhat, masked by the malt. This is a balanced strong brew boasting an ABV of 8.1% that can creep up on you, "so don't get mauled". It has a dry roasted quality that masks its high alchohol content, so drink responsibly.

Pours almost opaque with a big tan head off a strong pour. Nose is mildly malted. Flavor is smooth with a touch of sweet that morphs into a roasted and hearty flavor. What is left afterwards is a strong, earthen flavor on the tongue. Feel is good. Great carbonation and highly drinkable. Pretty damn good stuff.

Almost opaque black with a bright brown crema. Aroma is toasty with caramel and light brandy notes. Lighter in flavor and body than I expected with only mild bitterness and sharp, fading sweetness. Alcohol is not apparent $5/22oz

Bomber. Pours black/brown with a small light brown head. Aroma leans towards the sweet, dark fruits more than chocolate coffee, though both are present. Lacks the strong roasty smell I like in Imperial Stouts. Still smells good just can’t compete with others in this stacked category. Flavor is smooth, silky chocolate and dark fruits. Impressive but not too noteworthy. This is definitely a minor imperial stout. Could be a great normal stout but a little too light to be considered a great imperial.

The first scent is great and the head just made me want to dive right in, thick and foamy eventually reducing down to a thick lacing. The taste has hints of coffee and dark chocolate but is a little weak and watery. finishes much cleaner than most stouts. Malty taste comes out as the beer warms. Not too shabby.

22 oz bottle. Pours black, cream head, lacing. Strong aroma of dark fruits... raisin, plums. Chocolate, of course. Very sweet smelling, sweet tasting. Similar to Rasputin. Unfortunately a bit watery. Slightly disappointing for an imperial stout, but still good and worth a try.

Poured black into a pint glass. Not as pitch black as other impys, more approachable. Smell was roasted malt, and hints of caramel. Taste really brought out the caramel notes as well as strong roasty notes, fairly creamy with hints of coffee, ended with a rather dry finish. Nice imperial stout, but nothing over the top here.

Poured deep brown color with some red highlights. Nice creamy, foamy head and aroma of coffee tickled my nose. Mouthfeel was nice and creamy. Beer had nice full taste...roasted malty goodness with a good bit of coffee in there...and a touch of hops for balance.
