Commercial Description:
Big Bear, as the name implies, is a hefty, black, Russian Imperial-style stout. This strong stout boasts a rich, caramel sweetness lavished by a robust, deep-roasted heartiness you can sink your teeth into... Big Bear's bold flavors are produced using a blend of Belgian and English roasted barley and crystal malts. Some unique flavors come forth in the malt character...Louisiana sweet molasses and dark brown sugar. This dark brew is well hopped with Chinook and Cascade hops, which are somewhat, masked by the malt. This is a balanced strong brew boasting an ABV of 8.1% that can creep up on you, "so don't get mauled". It has a dry roasted quality that masks its high alchohol content, so drink responsibly.

Bottle courtesy of Naka. Pours black with rimming ruby hues, light beige head, fizzy and dissipating to a rimming film. Caramel and roasted nose, raisin, plum. Mild watery mouthfeel, moderate carb. Taste is all roast with a good dose of chocolate, solid moderate to high bitter, mild astringency and slight caramel, raisin and brown sugar. Mild alcohol in the finish and after. A bit thin for an Impy, but still tasty.

22 oz bottle. Pours black with a dense tan head that sticks to the glass. Aroma of molasses, caramel, dark fruit and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet chocolate and a roasted and hop bitterness. Full body with average carbonation and a thick rich mouth feel. This is a very nice Imp Stout, the alcohol is very well hidden and very smooth, it’s just a bit lighter than the average Imp Stout.

Nice medium brown head. Complex roasted barley flavors with excellent chocolate and coffee notes. This one is right up there on my list of black beers.

bottle thanks to Treborwhip, pours black with a tall tan head. Strong hop nose, not a typical RIS aroma for sure.....almost the exact same aroma as the Red Rocket ale. Nice strong roasted malt and alcohol with some dark fruits and a mild hop bite in the end. Carbonation is moderate and the mouth is crisp. Nice stout.

Pours a deep dark brown/black. Aroma of dark chocolate and brown sugar. Initial taste is toffee and chocolate. Very robust and thick. Finish is well balanced with a hint of hops. Quite a nice stout.

Espresso black pour with a foamy beige head. Nice balanced aroma - smoky, malty, earthy, roasty, with nice bittersweet chocolate and cocoa notes - no detectable alcohol, at least to me, in the aroma. Nice flavor too - more chocolate and earth notes, also a nice nuttiness, with some toffee and banana. Nice on the palate, smooth and dry with little carbonation. Overall, a very nice stout. Nothing out of the ordinary about this one, just a nice, classic, well-balanced stout

Pours a dark black brown color with medium to large sized tan head. Boozy with lots of dark chocolate, coffee, and a little bit of smoke, and a decent hop presence. Medium weight and medium to long finish. Actually not too bad.

Black thick pour with a thin off white head. Roasted grain, chocolate, toffee and hop aroma. Smooth malt body with lots of chocolate, roasted grains and dark fruit. Has a fair amount of aggressive hop in the taste, too. Damn good stout.
