Commercial Description:
The first of our small batches brewed on the old Wild Horse brewing system, this black beer is a twist on the classic Belgian Wit. It is brewed with three kinds of wheat and black and crystal malts. Roast and clove notes are its major flavors; it finishes dry.

On tap at Jerry’s. Dark brown with creamy tan head / Spicy, roast coffee & banana nose / Medium body with balance of malts and creamy, chewy hops and good, dry finish / Flavors of toasted malts, chocolate, banana, lemon, and big dry hops, with any spice and clove subdued / More a cross between a dry porter and a wit, but very successful.

Tap at Hop Devil - hazy ruby, brownish beer - very wit-like aroma, with orange peel, coriander, lemon zest - behind this there are some porter-like, cocoa notes - on interesting combination that really works - the flavor is much less so - it tastes a lot like a porter with slight herbal and floral character - it’s actually a nice combination, just not as interesting as the aroma suggests - the bitterness is more herbal than hoppy, which reminds you that you aren’t drinking a porter - pretty nice, actually, and just different enough to be memorable.

Poured from tap at Bear Republic a dark brown black with tannish medium head. Aromas of malt with soft wheat and yeast. The flavors are abundant. I was expecting a more wit profile, but was open to anything. There was lots of malt, wheat, clove, banana, spice and a light roast grain. Palate was sweet tart with yeast toast. I really liked this one. If you stop trying to catagorize this one and just enjoy, it’s great. I wish I could find this one in my area.

Samped on draft at Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear brown color with a medium tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of bread, chocolate, nuts and leafy hops. Taste is bitter hops, nuts, chocolate and a bit of breadiness. Medium bodied.
