Commercial Description:
This Imperial Red Ale is an extreme beer lover’s dream. It is our Red Rocket Recipe, brewed with twice as many ingredients. Toffee and caramel malt notes and warming alcohol are balanced by sharp hop bitterness and citrus hop oils. Mahogany in color, enjoy in moderation.

growler from CBX. sweet find on my trip to charleston. pours a beautiful dark brown, ruby color with a thin, beige head a great lacing. aroma is delicious with huge earthy hops, pine, caraway seeds, grapefruit, and a great caramel sweetness. flavor is outstanding. initially big malty, toasted rye, toffee notes come through that slowly give way to slightly sugary, very piney hops, with a unique toasted caramel finish. mouthfeel is substantial with solid carbonation, nice alcohol presence, and a long lasting bitterness. overall, a great big beer. lucky i got my hands on this one.

On tap at Sacramento Brewing. This brown ale poured with a nice tan head and a malty aroma. There is a rich and thick treacle flavor with a sharp hop finish.

Location: Draft sampling from Whole Foods (Bowery @ Houston St.)

Aroma: Caramel, earthy/piney hops
Appearance: Amber/red, off-white head
Flavor: Sugary sweet initially with the hops in mid-palate/finish
Palate: Nice transition through the palate, decent mouthfeel, full body
Overall Impression: Just a small sampling, but I thought it was pretty good. Lots of character to this one, that’s for sure, I’m just thinking they may have tried to do a little too much here.

Draft. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Huge hop characters in here. Pine and floral aromatics, earth, spruce, mild hop resins and some grapefruit in the finish. Light citrus and some sweetness in the alcohol warming but well masked by the assertive hop body.

On tap at Fatheads in Pittsburgh. Pours a murky dark reddish brown with an off-white head. The nose is more earthy and grassy with some caramel and pine. The flavor has a strong toffee/caramel malt backbone with notes of woodiness, pine, grapefruit and general earthiness. Ample resinous hop character but overall very smooth. Nice, creamy body with moderate, airy carbonation. Overall good.

Dark red and brown. Served in snifter. Nice taste of light grassy hops. Very dry aftertaste, that makes you want more, and more, and more, an more

Reddish-brown in color with a big citrus hop and brown sugar/caramel malty aroma. Flavor is quite sugary with candy mixing well with citrus and floral hops. Thick feel that lingers. Pretty good

Draft: pours a dark brown with a frothy head, aroma of malt, caramel, citrus and some hops, malty taste with some hops, fairly full mouthfeel. Good stuff.
