This was awesome, served from tap a Ventis basement bar.
115 ibus..but though the bitterness is ob vious then copious malt bill equals it.
for $4 a pint this is fantastic stuff indeed.

Nov 19, 2009 On tap at 515 in Santa Cruz. Pours a deep amber color with a tan head that fades to a ring that leaves some nice concentric rings of lacing. Aroma is citrusy with big toffee and caramel notes. Flavor is toffee-based with hop resin and citrus on top. A little tangy but not really that bitter. Doesn’t live up to the claimed 115 IBUs. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth and the drinkability is very solid.

Nov 19, 2009 Much too sweet. Complex, but nothing breathtaking. I don’t particularly care for the toffee-caramel sweetness of Red Rocket, so double is a bit much.

Oct 10, 2009 Sampled at GABF. Dark red pour with tan head. Aroma is sweet, sticky, caramel and bitter. Flavor is strong anfd bitter, hoppy, tasty. Pretty good.

Sep 22, 2009 (Draught) Pours a deep amber body with a medium beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, toasted grain, chocolate, biscuit, and caramel. Flavor of hops (citrus, floral, earth), caramel, and roasted malt.

Sep 20, 2009 pint @ Tyler’s Apex. Good aroma, sweet. Hoppy, pine, little fruity, I’m getting cherry, caramel / toffee kind of malt. Dark orangy brown color, good head and lace. Sweet, bitter flavor. Medium body, smooth creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Good brew, Looked great, thought it was at it’s best at it coldest point, aroma and flavor muddled as it warmed.

Sep 19, 2009 Sampled during RBSG 7/11/2009 on tap at the brewery. This American Strong Ale pours a dark reddish color from the tap. Small to medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is malty with some piney hops. A medium bodied American Strong Ale. The malts are caramel and sweet. The hops are piney and grapefruity. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Nice Amped up version of Red Rocket. Lots of malts, lots of hops. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter
