kidmartinek (720), austin, Texas, USA Dec 20, 2007 Updated: Feb 8, 2008 Wow this is good. Why does rye taste so good? This beer is a deep caramel color on the pour and a dark dark brown with reddish tint in the glass. IT has nice foam thats moderate tan in color. The aroma is of sweet flowery hops. Mmmmm. The taste is bitter sweet and strong. Very nice. Mouthfeel is nice and thick. The brew draughts sweet on the tongue and finishes bitter. Oh so nice.
chicagodri (485), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a dark amber and it had a big tan head. Nice hoppy smell, mainly grapefruit and other citrus hops. Great flavor, nice bitterness. Great malt balance. Really great beer. Lagunitasfan (52), San Diego, California, USA Sep 1, 2008 22 oz bottle. Yum yum yum. Great strong IPA smell- hoppy sweet piny malty, yummy. Big and full and sweet in the mouth, without being gooey or sticky sweet. Not the gloppy candy sweet some get. Still had a sharpness underlying in the roundness. durhambeer (412), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle from liquidsolutions. Dark cloudy red-tinged brown pour with big off-white head. Big floral hops, caramel, malt, and grapefruit on the nose. A little resin, but not skunky. Similar palate with the rye showing up but not as spicy/bitter as expected, and I mean that in a good way. Tingles and dances on the palate. Yum. jodyperkins (65), Mississippi, USA Aug 30, 2008 Poured from 22 oz bottle. The hue was reddish brown with a huge slightly brown head. The head lasted forever. Super hoppy aroma. Malty and hoppy - very well balanced. Delirium (430), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 30, 2008 Bomber. Pours red/brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a nicely balanced mix of caramel malt, sticky pine hops, and grapefruit hops. Flavor is the big double-IPA mix of malt and hops, but well done: solid malt backbone with a dominant sticky pine hoppiness, some graininess, and a grapefruit/woody hop finish leaving a bitter aftertaste. Not a huge fan of the finish, but otherwise an excellent beer.
