Commercial Description:
Inspired by Northern California’s brewing history, this California Bitter is as inviting as the Redwoods. Smooth and drinkable, this ale has a well rounded malt character accented by a Bear Republic hop kick. Have one and explore this place we call home.

This is a thin, one-dimensional, unbalanced attempt at producing an English Bitter with defintie APA hop character. It’s amber with a creamy, medium off-white head, thinning slowly to a ring and wisps. It does leave some good lace. Aroma is toasted grain, grapefruit, with a hint of lemon. Taste is bitter grapefruit from the very start through the finish and into a lingering bitter aftertaste. It has hints of toasted grain and raisin, along with a faint trace hint of pine in the finish, but otherwise it’s only grapefruit. Thin and watery with rather characterless malt, it cannot support the unwarranted bitterness, and has almost no sweetness or flavour to balance. Although not bitter in an absolute sense, this is one beer that is far too bitter relative to the rest of its elements and is totally unbalanced.

On draft at the Bear Republic Brewpub where it was paired with my Black and Blue Burger and garlic fries. Came a nice clear amber color with a creamy off-white head . Medium body and a nice clean mouthfeel. Nose of grains and floral hops. Taste is bitter. Finish is dry. A very nice bitter that went great with the pub food.

Pours a slightly hazy gold, with white head. Malt, light bread, light hops, and a touch of fruit. Thin creamy mouthfeel. Not very interesting.

(Draught) Poured with copper colour and clear. Head was medium sized and white. There were hops and malts in aroma. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. There were flavours of hops, malts, bitterness, sweetness and molasses. Finished malty and bitter.

Samples at GABF. AMber pour with white head. Spicy, bitter aroma. Creamy, hoppy, spicey. Really good example of an bitter. Wouldn’t mind crushing a few of these in bottles.

On tap at RFD. This is excellent. POurs a clear, light amber with a modest, white head tat leaves little retention. Aroma is very fresh grapefruit, resiny hops. taste is similar with good, refreshing caramel, orange peel, red grapefruit. This was simple, fresh, easy to drink, and outstanding.
