Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. Bottle to glass. very hoppy aroma and taste. Has a fairly thick white head that dissipates rather quickly. Nice beer

Hazy amber color with a white head that yields a slight lace. Notes of citrus orange hops on nose. This is a medium bodied ale on mouth with a crisp hop flavor that is not overly bitter. The finish is smooth and you pick up a slight sweetness on the front of your tongue.

Picked up a single 22-oz bomber at The Coffee Grounds in Eau Clarie, WI. Pours a clear golden amber colored brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of multi-grain malt, citrus zest and a hint of lemon. Taste is medium bodied, plenty of bitterness with flavors of grapefruit, citrus zest, a hint of multi-grain malt and some tropical fruit. Finish continues a sharp bitterness with grapefruit and Cascade hop aftertaste is lingers on. Excellent west coast caliber IPA.

This is a good IPA for sure. Not much aroma, which was kind of disappointing. Pours a nice dark golden color, very thin white head, dissipates quickly. The flavor is fantastic and really makes up for the lack of aroma. Lots of cascade flavors, with just a hint of malts to balance the bitterness. I like it.

Piney and herbal aroma; intensely hoppy with floral and weedy overtones. Low malt aroma, low alcoholic vapor. Light copper with golden highlights. Brilliantly clear with good apparent carbonation. Slight head retention, off-white. Slightly sweet initial flavor with round malty sense that explodes into hops. Both the floral pine from the nose and side-of-tongue, mouthful of nickels bitterness. Late flavors all hop with a vaguely vaporous finish. Upper limit of alcohol for style. Hint of cherry as it warms. Very late finish has more grapefruit/citrus notes.

I liked this IPA - but it ain’t no Stone Ruination; my benchmark for the next generation of expertly crafted IPA’s. Still, nice golden color, decent hoppy aroma and flavor - nice finish! Definitely drinkable and re-buyable!

(Draught) Poured golden and clear with medium sized and white head. Aroma was hoppy and fruity. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were hops, fruitiness, grass, bitterness, malts and citricness. Hops and bitterness in aftertaste.

This is my first encounter with Bear Republic and I can say they have a good product. Like advertised, this is a very hoppy brew that any IPA lover will appreciate.
