Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. California State Fair Bronze Medal, 1997 Beerfest Invitational. - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69.

Bright orange color, hazy, nice head. Smells like citrus and hops. The taste is hardcore citrus with a nice bitterness. The mouthfeel is nice. This is a pleasure to drink and the price is fair at $10 per sixer or $4.50 for a bomber. This is a fantastic IPA as far as my palate is concerned. Slightly bitter IPA. Quite good for somebody who is typically not an IPA fan.

Bottle. Pours out a slightly cloudy light copper color with a big fluffy slightly off white head. Aroma is mainly citrus hops, some grain and other light fruity notes. Taste is balanced, maybe a little too balanced for my liking, citrus hops, grainy malts, some sweet fruit notes and a lingering dry finish. I’m not sure if its the hop variety used or what it is, but I’ve had this a few times now, and don’t get me wrong its a good IPA, but I didn’t flip over it certainly not 3 beers below Furious on the "IPA Hierarchy".

Hazy orange-amber, very minor white head. Nose is somewhat weak, caramel and grain with light tea, pineapple, and orange. Flavor stronger, some pine and caramel in addition to lots of grainy biscuit and sweet fruit. Alcohol comes heavy with warmth. Slightly salty, moderate body with moderate carbonation. Overall, pretty moderate.

It’s a beautiful thing to behold in the class, amber/orange, perfect clarity, thinnish off-white head. If the head was thicker and more persistent, it would get a perfect 5 for appearance. Pungent columbus hops are the first thing to hit the nose, followed by barley-sugar malt. The flavour follows this, with a candied orange taste - almost like Cointreau. The finish is a perfect balance between the sweet malt and the bitter hops, but I get the feeling there’s little in the way of bittering hops here - tastes like all the hop flavour comes from late hop additions. Tasty, but just slightly off the mind blowing experience I was expecting.

Bottle: pint glass: Damn good IPA... pours a dark honey/ amber leaving a very thin ring of off white head. The nose is obviously hoppy yet noticeable sweet fruits are available. The taste is even more complex: bitter hops, a spicy quality, the ABV is noticeable but not overpowering, some minor wheat notes... I had some tiny floaties. Very well balanced.

Nice hop aroma. Hoppy without overdoing it. Nice malt backbone to balance things out.

bottle...hazy copper pour,big white head,good lacing. aroma is rich grapefruit.smooth caramel malt flavor gives way to a smooth citrus hop bitterness.well balanced.dry and medium bodied. excellent.
