Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. This agressive racer poured a handsome golden brown head into my pint glass. This IPA was well hopped and blended well with malt cutting into the bitterness. Floral notes at the finish.

Bomber poured into a tulip. Hazy, dark orange color with a smallish off-white head. Nose has equal parts hops and malts Smells of oranges and even a little pear. Medium body, decent carbonation, cream texture, and plenty bitter. The finish has a mellow bitterness that lingers. The alcohol is nicely masked

Pours a cloudy orange, thin white foam. Aroma spicy and hoppy, some citrus. Pretty smooth for an IPA, the hops is there but not as biting as I expected. Then the hops comes on in the end, finishes rather bitter. Good stuff.

Orange-amber body with a white head that goes away quickly, although there is some decent lacing. Very nice aroma of pine, citrus, and pineapple. Smooth, medium body. Flavor starts sweet with caramel and pineapple. Quickly turns to bitter with grapefruit and pine. Very bitter aftertaste. Not bad, but a little much on the bitter side.

Draught at Q-Brick. Huge, bitter aroma and flavor of citrus and piney hops. Lightish malt, well, not light, but completely overwhelmed by the hops. A touch of caramel. Very interesting hopping, but I prefer my beer with a semblance of balance.

Bottle. Large fin bubbled off-white head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Cloudy golden pale amber color. Aroma of grapefruit, citrus, light perfume, peach, pineapple. Excellent chewy hoppy fresh feel. Medium bodied with an average carbonation and light dry texture. Moderated sweet and bitter flavor. Lingering fruity pineapple bitter finish.

I forgot how good this beer is and wonder why I haven’t rated it. This has the stemmy, grassy, citrus and herbal aromas I crave in an IPA, and all in the right proportion and balance. Hazy yellow/gold, thick spongy head with a few welcomed floaties. Sweet pineapple and juicy lemon, grassy body, light herbal finish.
