Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. There is something about Cascade and Columbus that smells terrific. Reminds me a bit of Pliny the Elder. One of my new favorite beers.

Botella. Deep golden orange colour. Nice hoppy piney and fruity aroma. Good filling mouthfeel. The flavour has a good fruitiness with good bitter hops, pine and a good pleasant mild sweetness. Dry long lasting hoppy fruity finish.

Pours a dark hazy gold with a thick rocky head. Big citrus pine and grassy aroma. Nice malty body balancing it all out, very nice chewy taste. Bitter citrus grassy pine flavor. Really big flavorful IPA with nice chewy Cascade and Simcoe style hops. Very good.

On tap. Orange color with a thin white head. Aroma and flavor was dominated by hops from start to finish. Wonderful citrus and floral hops. Barley any malt came through; thus unbalanced.

Peach juice. Hazy thick orange with a thin white head. Fades into a thick ring along the edges. A very sharp grapefruit and citrus punch with a strong pininess. A very forceful and persistent hop flavor. Pretty spicy and has a strong punch of hops. A tiny bit watery in the end but it helps balance the hops. A very drinkable IPA and one that I really do appreciate for what it is. However the ABV will actually shock you. It creeps up on you.

(10/13/08) Draught at Map Room in Chicago. Hazy golden color with a small white head. Aroma of flowery hops and citrus. Bitter hoppy flavor with nice citric tones. Rounded-mouthfeel. Great and refreshing.

Pours a slightly hazy, deep orange into the glass, with a nice medium eggshell head that leaves soapy lace. Very pleasant citrusy malt nose, really accentuating the orange contingency. Nicely bitter throughout, this brew shines forth with citrus (orange and grapefruit) notes, enough malt to balance and back the peppering hops, and some light melon/honeydew to smooth out the pull. The finish closes the present flavors, leaving the nice peppery pine hop to tingle the back-palate.... lingering, and well done with complexity. Mouthfeel is smooth, and medium-bodied. This brew has character, and is a nice offering in the IPA genre. So many different aspects of the flavor and complexity shine through, it’s hard to capture them all accurately in one rating. Excellent beer.
