Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. Aroma is citrus hoppy, some floral and sweet caramel comes through. Get a little bit of rind and more malt the deeper I smell the beer. Taste is bitter rind, caramel malts, some crispness. Finishes with a lingering bitterness, some malt sweetness. Very solid standby IPA. Nothing world class, IMO, but very solid.

Was able to sample this while on vacation, very fragrent and a great color. The citrus notes were strong but the beer is well balanced and easy to drink.

351 mL bottle. Copper orange with just a film of head. Nice lacing. Strong, but not overpowering, aroma of floral C hops and sweet caramel malt. The flavour is very well balanced, with lots of pine and citrus from the hops and a chewy nuttiness from the malt. Bitter and fairly short finish. Body is medium. Nothing fancy, but a great beer.

Tasted on vacation in CA. Very nice IPA. Really drinkable, not very complex, but what their is is so good and includes a kind of nutty flavor with the citrus hops and malt. Great, bitter finish.

[1586-20080816] 12floz bottle. Citrus hops and lemon seed aroma. Clear, light orange brown body with a quick foamy white head. Bitter lemon seeds flavour. Medium body. Quite bitter.

Sampled from 22oz bomber: poured a bright orange colour with a full floraly(?) aromatic head. Well carbonated, mouthfeel was full, creamy and pleasentely hopped. Initial taste is of sweet yet subtle carmel, faintly bready, lightly roasted malts, then comes the hop kick, noticeably piney and balanced. Deep earthy characteristics- overall a nice agressive ipa- just like the label suggests.
