Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Commercial Brewing Competition, Silver Medal Winner; 2004 World Beer Cup, Silver Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, San Diego, Gold Medal Winner; 2001 Real Ale Festival, Chicago, Gold Medal Winner; 1999 Great Amercian Beer Festival, Gold Medal Winner - og 1.070, ABV 7.0%, IBU 69. Bottle. Hazy orange in color. Not much head. Smell of Hops! Taste is a nice bitterness backed by a stong maltyness. Smooth and easy to drink. The hops are sweet and fruity. Good texture. Overall one of the better IPA’s out there. I would definitely pick this up again!****UPDATE****Recently had it on tap at Stateline, even better!

Awesome hoppyness, great grapefruit flavor coming through, restrained bitterness especially for the hop level. One of the best IPAs out there.

Very nice brew. Pours a orange yellow color with thin white head. Aroma of hops and caramel. Taste follow suite. Very nice carbonation on the tongue with a very bitter, long finish. Would drink again.

Bear Republic Racer 5 is an unclear orange color with a very nice beige head. The aroma is very sweet and hoppy. The flavor is also very sweet and the taste is slightly nappy and a bit wattery but still very drinkable.

Beautiful IPA that is very caramelly and though not sweet. Sticky feeling in the mouth with a somewhat harsh but pleasant cabonation. I don’t sense all the pine that poeple are mentioning, more floral with small almost indecipherable grass notes. One of the smoothest IPA’s I’ve come across. Very lovely indeed, and deserved of its 98 percentile rating. I’m actually tasting the pine as it warms, not nearly as pleasant now, to me at least. Stil a great IPA.

Draft. Pours a slightly hazy honey-amber with minimal white head. Fruity hop aroma almost comes off as perfumey. Tastes distincly balanced toward hops but with some malt to balance. Sweet bitter finish. 6 3 6 3 11 rerate bottle. Good lacing, sweet light citrus, apple, caramel, honey, piney, mellowed, and balanced with a lingering bitterness.

orange and golden with solid white head. flavor has a very nice prominent malt component, followed by a hop component that adds mostly flavor with only mild bitterness. a unique IPA due to the large flavor hops without the bitterness. very nice

Smell is sweet with the obvious hops and citrus that you would expect. Taste is really balanced. A good amount of sweet and hops that makes it really even keel throughout. A very good IPA that isn’t just hops for hops sake as many West Coast IPA’s are.
