Commercial Description:
This is a hoppy IPA. Did I say hops? Your brewer is a hop head! This is a full bodied beer using American grains. The goal was to create a base for showing off the unique floral qualities of two Pacific Northwest hops, Columbus and Cascade. Columbus is a new hybrid High Alpha Acid hop used mostly for bittering, but used heavily as an aromatic in this strong brew. Cascade is the balance that ties the malt and bittering hops together. It is a true specialty ale and is our brewer’s statement on this style. 2004 L.A. Bottle->tulip: Pours a large, white head atop a sparkling, amber body. Light aroma of malt, average aroma of hops and a general odor of candy. The body is medium, texture is oily, lively carbonation, and an astringent finish. Moderately acidic and bitter. Kinda a little bit heavy for regular consumption, but a great diversion.

Keg at the Rake, London. Grapefruit all the way, American IPA at its best. Crisp mouth feel, long finish.

12 oz bottle. Pours a lightly hazy golden orange with a pillowy white head. Aroma is super fresh citric fruit, delectable and very inviting. The hop presence is really juicy and the aromatic oils dance through the nostrils. A clean crisp malt backbone provides support. Flavor starts with a sweet citric tangerine, nectarine and mango presence. Fades to a more sharp grapefruit and bitter but not harsh piney hop character. The sweetness really remains throughout and perfectly balances the hops into a smooth and sweetly bitter (bittersweet) finish. Bittersweet because I’m one sip closer to the end of it! Nice medium to full body and a softer carbonation. Excellent beer!

12oz bottle poured into a trappist glass produced a nice white foamy head, amber body, and some nice lacing. The smell is a bit hoppy with some nice cirtus notes. The taste is very hoppy at the beginning with some nice malt flavor rounding out the flavor and evening out the taste. The beer is nice and crisp. A bit sharp at first but not overpowering and left a pleasant bitterness on the palate.

I still remember cringing at the "insane bitterness" of my first non-Lagunitas IPA. Now that my tastes have matured a bit, I must say this one is pretty good. Well-balanced, very drinkable. An easy IPA to love.

A: Poured with a nice, large, frothy white head that hung around for a while before dissipating to 1/2-finger or so. Nice lacing on the glass. Body is mostly clear with a little haze and some particles floating around, and a orange color. S: Pleasant aroma of heavy hops, some pine, and a lot of orange citrus. T: Awesome flavor here. The citrus (orange) bursts through at the beginning, with some pine in there as well, and a very hoppy, bitter finish. Still manages to be smooth, however. M: Medium-bodied and creamy, with average carbonation. D: This is an excellent IPA... very flavorful and hoppy, but still quite easy to drink.
