gws57 (988), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Jul 9, 2007 Found this one bottled in St. Charles, Illinois. Hazy deep orange pour with a thick, tan head. Wonderfully potent nose of citrusy and floral hops. Sweet, fruity malts balance out a really amazing hoppiness. Finished strong, clean and bitter. This is a phenominal IPA and an excellent beer from Bear Republic.
matt7215 (554), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Aug 28, 2008 12 oz bottle from premier gourmet. pours clear orange with a nice tan head. aromas of citrus and pine hops and caramel malts. very tyical ipa in both aromas and flavours this one is just better then most. the hops dont overpower you but are still the main focus. the malts are there to profide a backbone for the hop display. very good, vey enjoyable, the purest ipa i think ive ever had. Grizzle (4), Lawrence, Kansas, USA does not count Aug 28, 2008 1 Pint, 6 Fl Oz Bottle -> Imperial Pint glasses. Shared with Brother David while grilling some spicy sausage. Poured a cloudy dark honey color; the yeast actually provides some grit so it looks like honey. Nice frothy head poured out, but disappeared shortly. Minimal lacing.
Aroma was a sweet hop smell, but fairly weak. Certainly not overpowering.
Great flavor, with a strong Cascade hops taste, teetering ever close to being overly bitter, but staying just to this side. The flavor mellows after sitting for a moment - definitely worth taking the time to savor. Subtle notes of grassy straw and citrus are present, but unless you’re a wise guy, you’ll mainly only taste the hops.
For the honey appearance, this beer was thinner than expected. Dry as it rolls off the tongue. A fair carbonation, but a festival experience. BeerIndustry98 (14), , California, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pale gold in color, one of the lightest looking IPAs I ever have seen around. A floral aroma is present. Has a pleasant tasting note of honey in background, also very balanced. It is quite distinguished from other IPAs. I’ve discovered it as a lighter side of an IPA, if you will, with a good 7% ABV worthy of mention to keep you going. 2nd brew I’ve had from Bear Republic and they has impressed me so far. sleestak (63), Williamston, Michigan, USA Aug 27, 2008 22 oz. bomber. Poured brownish-gold with a fluffy off-white head, but with boatloads of brown, clumpy sediment spoiling an otherwise attractive beer. Aroma was mostly floral hops backed by citrus and caramel. Taste was earthy and peachy with a sweet malt background. Finished with a lasting bitterness. I suspect I got a bad bottle because on top of the floaties, I also felt the body was under-carbonated. Warrants a re-rate, for sure. jlf278 (228), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Aug 26, 2008 On tap at Bear Republic. So many great beers and only one sitting to try them. Compared to the other beers this one was definitely more floral and then trasitioned to a good solid bitterness. I only had a taster, but this was just an all around solid IPA without anything too showy. Once again, should have brought back some of this stuff. Darn.
