Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. Bottle - Wow. I didn’t really expect much out of this beer, but it knocked me clean off my feet and french-kissed me with all sorts of flavors. It’s a nice pour, with a hazy mahogany color and a little tan head. My wife, who apparently wasn’t french-kissed by this beer, said it smelled like a "stinky barn." I would agree, if stinky barns smelled like buttery toffee, caramel, molasses, and bourbon. The taste was nearly as good, with sweet malt, that lovely bourbon, and some dry grains. It finishes with some subtly spicy hops on the back of my tongue, though there was a weird off taste from time to time. Man, this beer is smooth too -- I loved everything about it.

Dark amber pour, medium head, light lace. Hoppy sweet aroma. Whoa, big hops and alcohol. Very little malt to balance. All hops and pine, thick and tasty, yum.

Pours brown with a thin caramel head. Aroma is caramel malts, some licorice, and spices. Taste is bitter hops, caramel malts, licorice. This is maybe a little too bitter, but still a very good beer.

A bit more bitter/astringent than I’m used to, but its starting to win me over. I got this 22oz bottle at a good price so I’d probably get it again. I like the licorice flavor overtones... good for a sipper. On a whim, I mixed it with some Blue Point Blueberry ale that I was also drinking, and the flavors balanced pretty nicely. update 11/24. I think I like this less on the retry. My taste has developed somewhat since I had this beer, but I still haven’t gotten the hang of appreciating these strong ales.

Aroma of flowery hops and sweet malt and some spices. Hints of licorice as well. Color is a dark mahogany with a medium tan head. Flavor is rich and malty, this beer is full bodied with a creamy finish. Alcohol content is not super high but there is still a chest warming feeling in the finish.

Bottle at World Beer Pub and Foods Bulldog, Ginza. Mahogny-coloured with a huge tan head. Citrus hop nose and flavours, but with a solid malty base to complement it. Uncompromising red ale.

Bottle Pours a cloudy brown with red highlights with a thin off white head. The head seems to last well and laces fairly well also. The aroma is of pine citrus, malts and a touch caramel. Has a decent carbination. The mouthfeel is good. Has a good blending, and nice flavors. This is light to medium bodied. Has a pretty good finish. In style I think this is an awesome beer. It hits on all the points it should. As a beer drinker its refreshing and good. A win win.
