Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. Bottle graciously given to me by BeerGestapo. Thanks Mike. Served in a stem glass. Dark garnet pour topped by a lasting large khaki head. Smells of toffee, herbal hops, caramel, and bread. The flavor is similar with an added burst of citrus and cocoa. Nice dry finish with lasting bitterness. This rocket is delicious!

Draught @ Flying Saucer, Columbia SC. Brownish-red, deep and opaque. Smells hoppy. Low carbonation but chewy mouthfeel. Dark berries, lingering fruit pit finish. Tannins in palate are rough and astringent. The hop-malt balance is good and nice fruit pit character as well.

Dark red to brown in color with a good size tan head. Hoppy with caramel and malty aromas. Flavor definitely has hoppiness with not overwhelming it takes away from the balance I was expecting. Gets better and better closer to the bottom.

Draft @ the brewpub. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Hasa malty hoppy caramel aroma with some hints of citrus. Sweetish malty hoppy bitter citrus flavor with some hints of caramel. Has a sweetish malt ybitter hoppy finish.

Bottle. Powerful citusy aroma. Reddish amber body, gigantic thick rocky tan head. Moderately sweet flavor, with plenty of hoppy bite and citrus. Some bitterness in the finish. Very enjoyable.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear ruby red with a tidy, lasting, and dense light tan head that leaves streaky lacing. Aroma hits first with piney hops, then with caramelly and roasty malts with some fruity and pronounced spicy notes. Flavor balances rather bitter with piney hops, but the robust malt bill adds some complexity and helps support the high bitterness. Medium bodied and smooth with creamy low-moderate carbonation. This is a nice strong bitter ale; nothing spectacular, but solid. Personally its a bit too bitter and a hair too thin for me, but overall its well-done.

Bomber. Poured clear coppery orange with a short-lived dusting of whitish head. The aroma picked up toasty, slightly aged caramel, brown sugar, and soapy hops in fairly solid balance with each other. The flavor was caramel-centric with scratchy bitter citrus and fruity notes around.. mild oxidation worked for it.. finished long and bitter, with sweeter caramel backing it up. Medium-bodied with low carbonation on the palate.. bitterness was high, and didn’t work too well at certain points. Overall drinkable, but average.
