Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. Pours a dark red brick/amber color. Pour creates a dense, tight light tan head with superb retention throughout. A good amount of lacing curtains the sides of the snifter. Terrific aromas of roasted malts, toasted bread, brown sugar and caramels initially shows its sweet side. Aromas show, as does the flavors a great balance with crisp hoppy citrus, spice and floral notes from the hops also filling the nose. Mouthfeel is full, round and smooth with a bit of oiliness. Flavors start sweet much like the aromas with caramel malt, toffee and brown sugar quickly followed up with a firm but moderate hop bitterness with citrus and pine coming through. Definitely one of the most balanced bigger amber ales in the market.

Rocket brown is more like it. This is a deep dark red pour with yellowish off-white head. Lots of hops and lots of malt on this one, but the bitter hops win out, which disappointed me. Not as complex as I wanted. I was hoping for something closer to Old Chub, but I guess given the ABV, that is not a realistic expectation. This was a good beer, for sure, but I was not in the mood for such a bitter hop bomb. More malt, please.

Brewed in the USA.....Pours a reddish brown color with a dissipating white head. Aroma of mega hops, malts and i noticed a slight fruity character. Taste is of caramel malts with a yummy hoppy edge that really makes a big difference. The mouthfeel has a bitter finish to it, but i must say thats what i like about this ale. Bear Republic strikes again.

Piney aroma, red color, and lots of hops. Would have liked a little more malty sweetness to balance. Crisp mouthfeel.

somewhat cloudy ruby red in color with a thinnish light tan/cream head, it presents a rather flat look. First impression of the nose is hops. After that mellows comes a lot of caramel and a malt underbody with what seems like vanilla as a smoothing agent. Complex. Taste is less reliant on the hops and more balanced with notes of pine dominating. Overall mouthfeel does seem a bit watery.

This beer pours a great rubby brown color with a HUGE thick frothy head. Might have been my pour but that aside this was a great beer. Nice bitey hops balanced with thick sweet sugars. I like the play just wish it did not pour so thick of a head.

I absolutely love this ale -- when they get it right. I have been drinking, and usually enjoying this one for about a year. It seems to me, however, that there are issues with consistency in overall quality. Problem is, I don’t know which Red Rocket I’m getting when I purchase it. Sometimes, I get the brilliant Red Rocket I rhapsodized about in my initial review. Other times, I get a brew ranging from "deeply disappointing" to "decent" to "almost got it right this time." It’s a mixed bag. At best, truly exceptional; at worst, mediocre.
