Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a deep red body and a good thick head. Brown sugar and citrus aromas, with a bit of dried fruit. The dried fruit really comes out in the flavor, and is pretty hoppy. Very heavy, but some how smooth in the mouth. Very solid ale.

22 oz bomber. Poured a dark brown with a reddish tinge. Strong floral aroma with a bit of citrus lingering as well. The flavor is full of dried fruit and a has a large hoppy backbite. Probably the least good of the Bear Republics I’ve had so far, which tells you how much I’ve enjoyed their beers thus far.

12oz bottle. Pours deep reddish brown with huge thick and creamy light tan head. Aroma is hops, citrus, sweet malt, brown sugar, toffee and dark fruits. Flavor is hops, sweet malt, citrus, caramel, toffee and brown sugar. Nice thick and chewy mouthfeel. Damn good brew.

Pours dark brown, almost black with frothy head and good lacing. Aroma is dominated by dark fruit, brown sugar, and an overall theme of sweet malt. Some grapefruity hops poke through as well, but only mildly. Flavor is loaded with silky smooth, and somewhat roasty malt with some sweetness. Hoppyness complements the sweetness of the malt. Palate is full and smooth.

Pours a reddish black with a good amount of carbonation and a frothy head that leaves a beautiful lacing. Aroma is malty and sweet, with brown sugar, caramel, and maybe a touch of dark fruit. Flavor is nice, with some notes of roasted malt, sugar- has some of the qualities of a sweet stout. Palate is decent but nothing noteworthy. A good beer.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a one finger light tan head and pretty decent lacing. Nose is floral and citrus hops, dark fruits with some alcohol. Taste is sweet malt and some dark fruits at first with citrus malts dominating after that, before some resin bite rounds it out. There’s a touch of alcohol in the finish as well. Medium mouth feel. Good beer. Comes off like a hoppy barley wine.

Pours dark amber with thick fizzy head. Aroma is malt with some pine/resin hop aroma. Flavor is okay, I was not blown away. Good balance. Tastes a bit like the scotch ale I just finished... with a bit more hop balance. Decent drinkable beer.

Appearance: This ale poured a rich mahogony with a gorgeous, rich thick pillowy head. As I swirl the beer in my tulip glass, the head continues to refresh. Aroma: I am a bit surprised that there is not a greater intensity. The beer smells fresh and green, but doesn’t possess a huge aroma. Taste: The first flavor I notice from this beer is a slightly bitter hop taste that lingers on the palate. The hops are definitely present, but it seems to be missing some malt presence. Some slight chocolate malt flavors make themselves felt, but the hoppiness dominates. Mouthfeel: Lighter than expected. The hop oils linger on the palate long after the beer is gone. Overall: This is a solid brew, but I have had other amber ales that I find better, most notably Terrapin’s Big Hoppy Monster and Lagunitas’ Lucky 13. This beer is more on the lines of Troegs Hopback Amber. A good beer, but not the best I’ve had of this style.
