Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. I appreciate the history - this is where they got their start, and all that jazz, but I’m just blown away with their other offerings to think that this is the beer that they are known for. Its tasty, and packs a wonderful punch for a red ale, but it’s just not my thing. Funny that I never tried it until I was actually at the brewery...

Pours a ruby red brown in color with a nice inch or so of off white head. Smell is caramel malt and some hops. Taste shows more of the hops, but there is enough malt to balance it out. I’m also getting a bit of spice. I’m really enjoying this beer. Bittering and non-cloying on the tongue.

Bottle: Pours a deep brown with a rusty copper hue in the light and a thick, deep tan head that laces nicely. Has a great aroma of chewy malts- mild roast, some nutty character, sweet resiny notes, sweet dark bread/dough suggestions (almost rye like). Has a great creamy texture, silky palate. The flavor, as usual with Bear Republic, has a great malt depth- chewy dark bread (sweet rye), nutty, licorice/anise spiciness, cocoa, raisin?, sweet tobacco, and a semi-sweet resiny character which precedes the long, piny, dry finsh. Extremely rich, yet very balanced and highly drinkable. Awesome!

THE NICE AMBER RED COLOR IS DECIEVING. IT IS VERY HOPPY AND COMPLEX. A LITTLE ON THE BITTER SIDE. NOT YOUR NORMAL RED ALE.

Unfortunate name for this ale. Pours with a large, tight, light brown head that leaves good lacing. Hazy reddish brown body. Aroma of hops, caramel, flowery, mango, brown sugar and berries. Taste is caramel, light hops, sweet and fruity upfront with a light bitterness in the finish. Water like mouthfeel.

Bottle at Jerry’s. Brown-black with good, foamy beige head / Nose of sweet malt and caramel / Medium to full body, chewy, with just a touch of residual sweetness and good, hoppy finish / Flavors of caramel, dry hops, bittersweet chocolate, and light grapefruit notes / Should compare well to a dry stout.

WETHER or not a strong ale i could argue that one , but beyond contention is that this is FINE beer! wonderful hop aroma cold it is refreshing slick and berry sweet with holly berriies and pine needles and cones and hops in the finest sense surrounded by a wonderful yeastiness of the palate infused with a caramel honey vanilla sweetness so genuine as to make you understand you are fortunate. proves to me that you could name a brew ’belly lint" and so what its the beer that counts! disagree with more than a couple of beers with really high ratings won’t disagree here exCept maybe this is a 99! FANTASTIC!
