| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 2, 2008 Brought from a Cali-trip, Thanks Gary. Nice deep amber brown pour with a tight foam head. Great grain, malt flavors and slight spice/citrus texture. A nice hop and caramel blend sort of ties it all together. It’s got layers and levels-complex and well done. rajendra82 (704), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 1, 2008 This beer was picked up at Green’s in Greenville, South Carolina recently, and the pour looked a lovely shade of burgundy, and was capped by a dense but smallish head. The smell was citric hoppy, with undertones of red apples. The taste was tart, bitter, slightly peaty, and very hearty. The flavors were strong, but beautifully complimentary, and it was hard to put it down for typing this review. The mouthfeel was creamy and soft, and the aftertaste showcased the flavors ina slow fade. A beautifully crafted symphony, this was a very enjoyable experience while is lasted. sneagrams3 (1761), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 1, 2008 Tasted 8/9/08. 22oz bomber. Filtered with an amber brown hue. Layer of off-white head. Cola and cocoa aromas with spicy undertones. Medium bodied with a dry rye, hoppy finish. Big malt character. Solid body with a nice bitter flavor. Mild fruity undertones with a hint of grapes. Subtle vanilla flavor with toast and toffee flavors. Mellows as it warms with the malts really smoothing out and losing some of the acidic bite. The third pour finally gets to the gunk at the bottom of the bottle. Solid hoppy/malty balance and melding. Good palate roll. Another solid offering from these guys! | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 28, 2008 Updated: May 21, 2009355 mL bottle. Translucent dark ruby-brown with a massive, thick foamy head. Smells kinda like an APA, with lots of floral-citrus C-hops and sweet caramel malt. Tastes kinda like an American version of a Scotch ale: nutty, burnt caramel, some alcohol. No smokiness, though. Bitter finish. Medium to full body. Kinda reminds me of Scotch-Irish Corporal Punishment. jlf278 (255), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Aug 26, 2008 On tap at Bear Republic. What a great strong ale. This is on the lighter side for a strong ale, but a good choice seemingly as this is just plain delicious. It’s interesting this used to be a scottish red ale, definitely shows, though a good deal of refined bitterness is there too. Malt, bread, caramel, apple, grapefruit. There is a lot going on. I probably could have drank this all day, but only a taster for me. Juelze (919), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Trade from Ross, thanks man! Pours a rich reddish color with off-white head that leaves nice layers of cascading lace. Aroma is of caramel malt, citrus hops, and light notes of dark fruit. Taste the much the same. A typical ASA but done well, much the same as Lagunitas brewing.
