After a sniff, the first thing that stokes my interest is crystal clear PNW hops. Remarkable clarity is achieved in the way of grapefruit and pine, though plenty of sweeter, bready scents such as biscuits and toffee are also present. The hops in the flavor are again delightful, but are equally balanced with hearty biscuits, caramel, maybe pumpernickel. Very nice! DrBayern (1137), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA

Aroma - Roasted grain and nuts, cark caramel, grapefruit, spruce
Appearance - Clear, deep ruby under a billowing light brown head that settles slowly, leaving bands of thick reticulated lace
Flavor - Solid malt sweetness in the entry, with a grapefruit zest bitterness close behind, the bitterness lingers, turning peppery several seconds after the swallow. Lots of flavor, and the hops really bite.
Palate - Mediu to full body, medium carbonation, palate coating richness combines with a light astringency that results in a very satisfying mouthfeel.
Overall - Very impressive in every way. Satisfying, layers of flavors, a very well crafted beet in every way. PolakPorter (83), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Not what I was expecting from this crimson ber. Smells amazing. Mmmm...taste is equally impressive. Fruity citrus herbage...mmmm....much better than I expected, and I had high expectations. God bless America! RAYBOY01 (1867), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2008 Had this bottle at the Sunflower cafe in Sonoma. Fantastic beer, the bottle said it was a scotch ale that defies classification. At any rate, it was hoppy and delicious. Great beer. alexsdad06 (1105), Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 15, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark reddish copper color with a medium sized creamy beige head. The head collapses to a lasting layer with decent lacing. The aroma has a great combination of caramel malty goodness and citrus and floral hops. The flavor exhibits many of the same qualities as the nose. Up front there is a heavy dose of caramel malt and light hoppiness. The hops become more noticable mid palate to the finish. Citrus, herbal, and some pine make an appearance at some point. The finish is on the dry side and has the perfect amount of bitterness to accompany the sweet malt. This is a very solid beer that I will enjoy more of in the future. timsilvia32 (447), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 15, 2008 Nice red pour, cream head. Pretty floral aroma, slight maltiness. Taste is much more malty than hops with slight caramel/toffee. Enough hops to even it out, solid throughout, some lingering flavors in the finish, but pretty short. Clean, quite drinkable. The description does seem a bit off. Enjoyed this though.
