Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. Pours a very dark rich ruby red with a foamy, tan, and very persistent head. Thick lacing on the glass. Malt and berries on the nose. Flavor is strong of hops with coffee and chocolate notes readily apparent. More subtle notes of berries and nuts. A bitter, hoppy finish reminiscent of an IPA, with a little coffee underneath. A tasty wonderfully balanced brew.

650 ml. Clear, deep garnet with a three-finger, creamy head that lasts forever. Aroma is a luscious blend of caramel, molasses, citrus, earthy resin, and cocoa. Flavor is nearly the same, but slightly heavier on the citrus-resin, especially on the finish. Medium-heavy body is almost smooth, and astringently dry.

Thanks to Bear Republic’s expanded distribution I found this at the localCanal’s. Clear reddish copper pour under a tall dense light brown head. Aroma of caramel, citrus and toasted malt. Crisp malty flavor with touches of chocolate and roasted nuts. Good helping of piney hops lets you know this one hails from the "laid back" coast. Full textured body and a dry and somehow satisfyingly metallic finish. One of the few legitimately good amber ales out there.

From a 22oz. bottle purchased locally. Aroma is malty, fruity and hoppy all rolled together. Color is a deep ruby with a tan head. Flavor is malty and sweet up front followed by hop bitterness and a toasty, nutty breadcrust malt with cittrusy hop flavor in the finish. Full bodied, finished pretty dry for the gravity and a little lingering hop flavor and bitterness. A fantastic over-the-top amber/red ale.

Half a glass offoam, half a glass of brown, pronounced "red", beer, pronounced "ale". The name just conjours up bad images. Where they thought they were going with this?... Anyway, aroma is very good, slight malt with a nice hop dominance and a bitter end. The taste is , well the whole thing is realy something to revel in. It starts off smooth and almost malty, and turns to a smooth hoppy flavor with an aromatic hop note. It’s like a great smooth IPA with the texture of a Scottish Ale. This beer is better than most you’ve had. The only comparable thing I know is Lagunitas Lucky 13, which is a cunt hair better. And, you know, so to speak, I had to come back and add that the head on this beer just does not quit, and where else can you find that kind of enjoyment? Ok, that’s it. Here I am again. I had to come back once more and say that this beer has the best head on any beer you’ve drank since the moon rose and sat more times than you can remember.

A dark cloudy red/brown/black with a tan cream head, beautiful lacing and retention. Smells of floral hops and malts. A roasted malt flavor is soon dominated with a crispy hop finish. Very hoppy in the end. THis is a somewhat heavy beer that leaves the mouth a little dry. If I wasn’t so buzzed, I wouldn’t be opposed to having another. Serving type: bottle

On tap at Papago. Foamy, red and roasted. Not much aroma, but there’s a good deal of malts and roastiness in the nose. Lots of bittering hops in this one.
