Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. With a BBQ chicken club at Porter’s Pub, UCSD. Salty and hoppy on the nose. Seems it would make a good harbor/sea beer. There are no alien flavors in this brew. Good 80/20 hop-malt balance. A solid specimen. However, I would classify it more as an IPA rather than a strong ale.

Tap. Aroma starts with moderate malt notes of roasted and caramel, pine and orange peel for the hops and light broth for the yeast with wood, pepper and toffee in the backgound. Head is smallish, white, creamy with some large bubbles mixed in and the lacing coated the glass better tha 50%. Color is a dark red/brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic then finishes moderately acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, watery, has a lively carbonation and finishes a little astringent and lightly dry. Both a full and well balanced American strong.

Bomber pours a nice clear amber with big tan head due to the bottle conditioning and decent lacing. The aroma has dry roasted malts, mild caramelization, a hint of earthiness and very little hop presence. I think it’s a pine hop note. The taste begins aggressive with pine hop bitterness and dry nearly astringent roasted malts. The flavor becomes more sweet and rich with malts as the midway point is reached. I get caramel malts more roasted malts and also mixed in there is a nice peaty earthiness. This is an aggressive flavored beer. It would be interesting to let this age a year or so and try again.

Bottle via trade with lb4lb. Lots of spicy and dry hops on the nose. A hint of rye like spice as well. Some malty and brown sugar sweetness as well. Pours rich copper/amber with a nice creamy tan head leaving excellent lacing. Flavor is balanced bitterness and maltiness. The dry hops and creamy malt work well with each other without any one dominating. Medium to full bodied. Nice!

Bottle courtesy of the usual suspect; Hellbilly! Pours dark amber with thin fizzy head. Fresh hop aroma, Twist of malts and caramel. Nice Hoppy backbone.

very dark amber color with a nice head on the pour. hops immediately on the nose with the initial sniff. i was quite impressed for a beer that had so much hop smell, not too thick but actually quite a good beer.

22 Oz Bomber-poured an amber color w/a moderate tan head. Sweet malt aroma. Has a hopped flavor, much more than you would expect from the pour. Doesn’t seem to know if it wants to be an IPA, Scotch Ale, or Barleywine. Style is just too mixed up for me; this beer is a mess. Wasn’t terrible, just lacked a definitive style.

Rich ruby amber color. Beautiful and amazing lasting head. A roasted caramel smell. Nice rich bitterness. Great crispness on the palate.
