Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. reddish brown color with medium dense tan head. caramel pine aroma with some bitter orange to it. medium to light syrupy body and a light carbonation. citric pine resin flavor with a nutty roasted caramel maltiness. fairly light bitterness for the style. good and not too heavy, surprisingly drinkable and goes down like a pale ale

This beer pours a deep deep mahogany almost black with a thin tan head leaving some decent lacing down the sides. The smell is of nice beet sugars and hops and the flavor totally emulates this. This really is not that bad of a beer! It’s got a strong malt flavor but is equally balanced by the hops. I thought by the smell this would be more malty and less hoppy. Glad I was wrong! This is a very drinkable beer! Cheers!

The aroma from the bottle issued the promise of something approaching Bastardly, and was much a letdown afterward. Once in the glass an less concentrated, the aroma barely presented itself; as nice as its Bastardly tone was, it lacks volume. Appearance is the best part: actually living up to the Bastardly promise, with much lacing. The main delivery is lackluster, like 1 parts Bastard mixed with 1 parts water. Body very watery.

(bottle): Pours a dark brown reddish color, dark white head, average, diminishing. Very pine hoppy aroma, some alcohol. Sweet, slight grapefruity smell. Sweet taste, slightly syrupy. Taste of pine. Slightly heavy body, bubbly, good mouthfeel. Okay.

9/23/07 On draught at the Fremont Oktoberfest, Seattle. Aroma is sweet malt forward with caramel, dried fruit and citrus hops. Appearance is hazy amber with a good off-white head. Flavor is typical scottish roast malt with a good earthy hop balance that is not blended, but works well together. Mouthfeel is medium body with a moderate carb feel. Overall, this was a little too earthy for my tastes, but not bad.

Dark red to brown in color with a good size tan head. Hoppy with carmel and malty aromas. Flavor definetly has hoppiness with not overwhelming it takes away from the balance I was expecting. Gets better and better closer to the bottom.

Dark rich maroon pour with a big lasting beige head that wouldn’t die. Smell was rich sticky sweet malt, and almost rye like touches at times, and a nice vibrant hop blast. Taste was quite hoppy, but suitably backed by a unique maltiness. Mouthfeel was lightly carbonated and incredibly smooth going down. Alcohol is well hidden but pokes out ever so slightly. Nice lacing on the glass too, after the girlfriend and I downed the bomber. This one grew on me more and more as I drank it, and reminded me a bit of their Hop Rod Rye and I’m very glad we get these here in Austin now.

Bottle: Brown with red tints and a nice light brown head. Mild hop aroma, but plenty of hops in the flavor. It has a great finish and feel of an all around good beer with substance. I was impressed.
