Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. From Alefest in Columbus Ohio. Brown, with a thin creamy tan head and a medium body. Smooth and smoky. A very drinkable beer for a strong ale.

Pours a darker copper color with a tan head. Aroma is of citrus and pine hops, toffee, dark fruits, caramel, and some sweet malts. Flavor starts off sweet with caramel and dark fruits. There’s not much of a middle flavor but the citrus and mainly pine hops come forward strong on the finish to give it a bitter, lingering flavor. Overall this is a pretty good brew, a little dissapointed with the flavor but still pretty decent.

Dark brown color with medium whitish head.Aroma of dark malt and hops. Rich and comolex on the palate. Aggressive hop taste with sweet malt and some earthy spiciness.Extremely well balanced with a nice smooth finish. A winner in my book.

Nice ,handsome ale, brown with red tinges, topped by a gorgeous thick frothy tan head. Good balanced aromas, you first pick up the piney hops but soon a nice caramel malt aroma joins in. Smooth mostly malty flavour at first with the hops appearing much later in the mouthful, mainlly citric in intensity. Though nice on the tongue, this is just a tad too thin for style. Over all a nice amber ale.

On tap. Pour a very attractive dark red and brown that had nice depth to it. The head was thin, white and only hung around for a bit before retreating to the edges, leaving spotty lacing down the glass. The aroma was top notch. A super nice blend of soft citrus notes like tangerine combine with sugary malt and piney hops. Unfortunately the flavor didn’t find the balance that the aroma did. The sugary malt and citrus were dominated by the very dry piney hops. Good mouthfeel. On the verge of being a really great brew.

Pours brown with an average fizzy white head. Aroma is moderately hoppy with some citrus, scotch and sweet malts. Smells great! The flavour is a near perfect blend of hops and malt. Palate is nice and creamy. An awesome beer and one of my favourites. Bear Republic continue to impress.

Malty and sweet. Strong malty scent. Dark blood-red glow to it in the glass. Big visible chunks of sediment. Medium head. Good lacing. Difficult taste to evaluate; I’ve no experience with Scottish red ales and in any event this is one is not supposed to be typical of the style. I want to say it’s well balanced, in that I taste both the hop and the malt--but the tastes on both sides are strong. How can you have a bitter hoppy kick AND strong sweet maltiness at the same time? This beer shows you can. Not sure I like it completely but I love the fact that this brewery goes all out in its brews. (The feel on the palate matches the taste: lasting malty smoothness, stinging hop, light warming alcohol.) Overall: Weird. Likable. Admirable.

Do these guys make bad beer? Another outstanding beer from them. This beer is seriously helping my back problem and I am heading back for another bottle when this one is finished. There are other beers that I’ll never drink again and this isn’t one of them.
