Commercial Description:
The brew of choice for mountain bikers, and adventurous types worldwide. (Are you excited now!) This fiery red ale is not for the weak at heart. It originally started out as a Scottish red ale but has taken on flavors of its own. This is a very complex recipe using five different grains to achieve it's unique flavor. The caramel malt used is a mixture of Belgian Caravienne and Hugh Bairds Crystal malts. Red Rocket is a full bodied, hoppy brew which finishes on the pallet with caramel malts. Centennial and Cascade hops are used for bittering and aroma.2004 L.A. 22oz bottle pours dark copper in color with a healthy offwhite head that stays for a bit and laces some. Nice aroma of caramel malts, some grapefruit notes as well and maybe a little peat. Flavor is caramel, molasses, toffee, and grapefruit. Very smooth on the palate and quite easy drinking. Slight bitterness at the finish. Soft carbonation gives this a nice smooth mouthfeel too. Not bad at all.

Slightly hopped and malty aroma. Hazy red with a medium head. Medium palate. Good caramel malt flavor with a hop bite and a somewhat rye flavor coming through.

Pronounced fresh hop aroma. Balanced, drier than a traditional Scottish ale, but well balanced. Sort of a Scottish-American Pale Ale. Roast bitter cherry with a complex persistent finish. Very, very nice beer.

Dark amber pour with off-brown head. Malty nose with hints of hops. Light citrus, with great sweet malty mouth feel. Nice little alcohol feel to it when it hits your lips.

Aroma of pine, perhaps a bit of floral. Quite red color with a beige head. Starts with malty sweetness, full mouthfeel, followed by some hop which seems to be citrus. Some gritty brown malt in the finish, backed by some bitter. Fairly smooth, almost creamy at points. Seems a bigger ale than the 6.8% would indicate.

22 oz bottle, via jarspag. Pours a dark ruby colored body, completely clear, under a foamy one finger beige head that left copious amounts of lacing. The aroma strikes me as a typical ASA with a heavy citric hoppiness. Lots of syrupy caramel and toffee maltiness. Aggressive hoppiness grabs you up front with a moderate bitterness level. Finishes a little sweeter with some toasted and toffee malt. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slightly sticky and resinous texture cut by a lively aggressive carbonation level. This was decent, but seemed to lack any distinction between this and a 100 other ASA’s. I’m never too big of a fan of the "lots of everything" formula for Strong Ales. How about some subtlety?

Magma hued pour with a perfect, incredible thundercloud head. Candied plum and caramel apple aroma. Hidden foresty hops. Rather monstrous flavors. Burnt toffee and charred dark fruits chased in the finish by barren woody hops. Brown sugar glazed orange, semi-sweet chocolate. Palate is full, rich and forward. Somewhat noisy and brash, but still strangely pleasant.
