Commercial Description:
"XP" is the abbreviation for Exceptional Pale Ale. This is our interpretation of a classic pale ale. Our "XP" (exceptional pale) has a golden color, and is very light bodied with a noticeable hop aroma and bittering element that just teases the hopheads but satisfies the newest of microbrewed ale drinkers. This beer is brewed with American Two Row, English wheat, Belgian, and Dextrin malts. Mix this with just the right amounts of Cascade and Centennial hops and you've got a winner!!

22oz bomber, no date. Pours a clear orange golden with some floaties and a 3 finger slightly yellow frothyhead. Aroma has some piney spicy hops along with some dry wood, biscuity malts, and some light butter. Flavor is still woody with a stronger butteryness up front, and again the piney and spicy hops come through. Bitterness never really gets too high (maybe a 4 out of 10). High fizzy carbonation with light to medium body. This one is definitely different than a lot of APA’s out there, which was a nice surprise.

Ok, you’re supposed to drink the good beers first and then save the lesser beers for when you’re drunk. Not knowing what I had with this beer, I drank it in the wrong order, and confirmed that the next day when it was the first one I drank. Good Beer, drink more!

Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured clear golden color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid balanced sour citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with slick texture. Medium balanced bittersweet flavor with a medium smooth bitter finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable brew.

Fantastic fresh hop aroma. Frothy mouthfeel followed by a full, well balanced hop flavor. Malt takes a back seat. Finishes quite clean for a beer this hoppy. Just a hint of hop resin that quickly dissipates. Excellent.

22 oz’er - Pleasantly attractive copper color, lightly carbonated, but culminating in a huge, bright rocky head with sticky lacing. Yummy woodsy, hoppy aroma that makes me ready to dive in. Slipping over the tongue, this presents itself as a mildly hoppy brew with notes of pine and pear, but without a heavy resin texture. If it had more solid foundation, it would be superb. Enjoyable enough. (#2849, 5/9/2007)

22oz bottle. Aroma: Some light bready malt with a strong dose of citrus, floral and pine hops. Caramel comes out as it warms. Appearance: Medium golden in color and lightly hazed. White head was full and frothy with good retention. Good lacing. Flavor: Some biscuity and bready maltiness with a light note of caramel. Lots of hoppiness with the focus being a strong citrusy note. Some pine and floral hops join the mix with a touch of grass into the finish. Medium bitterness was nice and refreshing. Dry finish. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: Solid APA. Drinkable and packed with flavor.

22oz bottle pours amber with a short offwhite head that stays well and laces the sides of the glass. Aromas of orange, and some floral notes over good bready and caramel malts. Flavor is citrus with lots of orange notes blended and balanced well with some caramel and bready malts. Some grassy notes at the finish. Lively carbonation with a crisp and pretty clean mouthfeel. This is a pretty solid APA in my opinion. Glad these Bear Republic beers have finally landed here in Ohio..

Tap. Pours with a golden amber color and a huge head. Very hoppy nose and very hoppy flavors. A bit of grepfruit in there as well as some metallic flavors and astringency. This one is a bit harsh on my palate, could use some better balance.
