Commercial Description:
"XP" is the abbreviation for Exceptional Pale Ale. This is our interpretation of a classic pale ale. Our "XP" (exceptional pale) has a golden color, and is very light bodied with a noticeable hop aroma and bittering element that just teases the hopheads but satisfies the newest of microbrewed ale drinkers. This beer is brewed with American Two Row, English wheat, Belgian, and Dextrin malts. Mix this with just the right amounts of Cascade and Centennial hops and you've got a winner!!

Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo courtesy of blankboy - shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry and Greg Clow. Some citrus hops in aroma. Orange with a medium white head. Really nice balanced hop taste - very fruity - citrus orange the dominant hop flavour. Medium mouthfeel and body. Quite mild actually making this a perfect session brew. Rich and full of flavour this is another fantastic Bear Republic offering, thanks Paul!

Darker orange, with some brown and amber. Has a nice glow to it. Head is cottony white and obscenely large, crowding the snifter and leaving no space for the aroma to sit. After a bit it faces though and nice smells of melon, light pineapple and maple malt. Taste is big, bright and dry exhibiting all pine needles, pineapple, apricots, and very roasted hops with a minute amount of sweetness. Really delicious. Just an enjoyable hop excursion, delightful variety. Very carbonated, but softly so, making it foam in your mouth with a cotton candy like texture. Interesting. What I like most about this one is that it stands out of a very crowded field with a unique color, hop flavor and consistency. Outstanding lacing for the style. Purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, VA.

Bottle from Premier Gourmet, Buffalo courtesy of blankboy - shared with blankboy, HogTownHarry and tupalev. Golden-amber colour with a big off-white head. Aroma is quite hoppy, with strong notes of tea, citrus and pine sap. Nice mouthfeel. Flavour is very well-constructed, with the buttery malt and citric hops pairing and balancing prefectly. As much as I dig hops, it’s nice to try an APA that doesn’t completely strip my tastebuds.

Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy, GregClow and Tupalev, bottle courtesy of blankboy. Poured deep clear amber-gold with a big creamy-fluffy lasting off-white head. Aroma is hugely appealing medley of fresh, juicy orange-lemon-grapefruit hops, some roasty malt, resin and a hint of table cream. Flavour is very mild but lovely - it follows the aroma, balanced, easy to drink, a classic west coast pale ale but lighter.

poured a semi-murky orange with a large head that left thick webbing as it sat.aroma was a nice balance of sweet malt and "west caost" style pine hops.the flavor was a little watered down.especially after the exceptional aroma.still, not to bad at all.

Bought this 22oz at Norms in Vienna, VA. Copper colored pour with a nice off white head. Very hoppy aroma. Citrusy and orangy as well. Some bitterness in the flavor. A hint of hops as well. A pretty decent beer from Bear Republic. Definitely worth trying!

Aug. 23, 2005 -- 22 oz. "bomber." Quite hoppy, but remarkably light (or thin?) for a "winter" brew. Very nice, but left me yearning for something more substantial underneath the bitterness.
