A subtle but intoxicating blend of dried apricots, tangerine and orange in the aroma. Fairly mild, but it does have a pleasant, orange, passion fruit, hop flavor with a nice malt backing. A pretty good pale ale overall. hopscotch (5549), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2004 Very hazy, light golden ale with a small, everlasting, frothy, white head and stratus lacework. The aroma is yeasty and citrusy with huge notes of grapefruit, white bread, evergreen and lye soap. Good balance of citrusy, earthy hops and caramel malts. Just a touch on the sweet side. Medium-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lengthy, lightly sweet, grassy finish. Very nice offering from the folks at Bear Republic. jerc (3954), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2004 Bottle. Golden amber body with a fluffy white head. Lots of floaties (protein? yeast?) Aroma is hoppy, with a touch of grass, resin and muted caramel malt. Flavour is pleasantly bitter and fairly well balanced. Vague citrus and resin. A different hop character from what I have had before... maybe the centennials? Pleasant but perplexing. Citrusy but not necessarily grapefruit or lemon. Decent palate. Very interesting beer, but I can’t entirely decide if I like it or not. Unique. Shared with rudolf. Loddeer (171), USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 4, 2004 After I took the first sip of this one, it felt
like the hops violently slapped me across the face. This one is a hop monster, rough and untamed, this beast provides what the doctor ordered. Drinking this is analogous to hooking
yourself up to an I.V. filled with hop. More hop than even I could handle, a dandy. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 2, 2004 Thanks to prostman for sending this! Very hoppy nose. Amber color, fast diminishing head. Medium hoppy taste, fast going. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 17, 2004 This one was a bit of a gusher: the cap came off with a fervent "shhhpp!", and the foam started spilling out of the neck! I had to cover it with my lips, of course, to lap it up, and spoiled the surprise of the taste. I’ll just pretend that never happened and carry on...
Appearance: big carbonation, hazy, pale orange hue, enormous head, as poured into a Belgian-style tulip glass, with delicate lace, an attractive thing, beckoning the nose to investigate further delights...
Aroma: rather light, but flush with sweetness, and citric, tropical fruit, typical pale ale esters, some bitterness, a true hop cornucopia.
Taste: mild, and fruity, sweet, and hoppy, a perfect profile for an EPA, even from the West Coast. Mmmm, I peeked at the label, and see Centenniel and Cascades were put to use here...two of my favorites!
Very smooth, yet full flavored, and unremittently tasty...medium bodied, long, fruity finish, non-stop taste, and excellent ease of drinkability...what’s not to like, here?
Glad it’s a bomber, for I’ve lost enough to the carbonation, and want to enjoy every last drop! FlacoAlto (2482), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 13, 2004 Pours a pretty copper color, that is lightly hazy. It has a large fluffy off-white head. It is well carbonated with a solid stream of bubbles coming up from the center of my Duvel glass. The aroma is quite enticing with solid aromatics of American hoppiness, I get notes of grapefruit and tangerine. The beer is quite dry tasting, which pairs interestingly with the dominant citrus character of this beer. This finishes with a solid bitterness. Because this beer is so light on the palate the hop bitterness actually seems higher than many IPAs. Tasty, and refreshing, but could actually use some more malt focus to keep this more in balance. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 3, 2004 Extremely hoppy aroma for a PA but thats fine by me. Orange color with beams of yellow spectrum on the sides of the glass. Head has small retention but gives off good lacing. Not hazy enough for me to call it that but there is a big presence of tiny particle sized sediment floating about. Flavor is mildly hopped with lime and grapefruit citrus along with a bit of pine or light dough maltiness. A strong flavored pale ale that has me rate it overall high.
