JesseM (424), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Sep 6, 2008 Updated: Sep 27, 2008 750mL ceramic swing-top bottle from a trade with a friend. Awesome, awesome stuff. I didn’t know what to expect, a new style to me, and what with the lower ratings, but in all honesty this thing blew my mind right out of the water. Pours a beautiful hazy gold with a large white head that diminishes fast. The aroma is just delicious, all the straw and hay malts one could ever want, creamy sweetness (not at all cloying), with a subtle hint of mild hopping. The taste is even better. So incredibly smooooooooth! Straw, hay, barley husks, malty orgasmic deliciousness. The long lagering process makes this into an awesome beer with perfect smooth body. WHY IS THIS NOT AVAILABLE IN ANY OTHER LCBO’S THAN THE ONES IN OTTAWA?!?!? They must have tweaked the recipe. Anyone who can’t enjoy the subtleties of a beer like this is just plain stupid IMO. Finishes well with a nice dry little hop presence, and descending notes of indistinct sweet fruity elements. I really wish there were more examples of this style for me to delve into in my area. Maybe my palate is just screaming for something other than macro swill after a night of partying, or maybe this just is an incredibly delicious and well made beer.
sinkhole (124), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Dec 1, 2008 Draught from the Manx. Poured a slightly hazy golden yellow with an average white head. Aromas of grain, yeast, and hops. Initial flavour of sweet grains, gave way to a moderate bitter finish. A nice beer to try, but not something I would look for.
mullet2007 (158), Newfoundland, Canada Nov 30, 2008 750ml ceramic bottle, pours a very slightly hazy straw colour with a very thin head. Nose is a little skunky and faintly spicy. Flavour is much the same. Not really skunky, but a tiny bit spicy. It’s a bit watery, in flavour and in the mouth. It has some sweet caramel notes especially as it warms up a bit. Carbonation is low but alright, and it is a bit watered down. rodenbach99 (472), Longueuil, Quebec, Canada Oct 19, 2008 bouteille de grès de 750ml, bière blonde avec une belle mousse, arôme de céréale, goût de malt agréable en bouche, ronde et efficace. When they brought this out in an authentic-style, Beau’s-branded, narrow vertical Kölsch glass, I knew these guys were serious about doing this right. It’s a straw-coloured beer with a billowy, constantly replenishing head. Malt is grainy, a bit sweet but not pils-like. Right at the edge of noticeability there’s a hint of floral, grassy hop. Flavour is sweet, with enough bitterness to make it crisp, quite clean with a Kölsch yeast note.
This is a well-done version of a style I find boring. I’m unlikely to order it again, but it will be successful and rightly so. It’s well-made craft beer. I wish people wouldn’t rate it so low just because it’s yellow. Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 7, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Clean and refreshing ale despite the fact that we drank it at a rather high temperature.

I like:
Fun german grassy, herbal hops. Pleasant grainy, cerealic, hay-like malts. Well-assembled and clean.

I dislike:
Lacking the classic Kolsch tall head and vigorous foam. Not as crisp as it could be. Certainly nothing to write home here.
