Commercial Description:
What this brew lacks in alcohol it certainly makes up for in flavor. This malt beverage (less than 0.5% alcohol by volume) boasts a full, rich, thick head, light amber color and balanced bitterness.

Light straw coloured body with a minimal white head. Aroma is skunk, hops, more skunk. Taste is bitter, sour, slight corn and metallic flavour. Watery finish, bitter aftertaste, but not in a good way. Not that well balanced

Appearance: Pours out a crystal clear, light yellow body with a smallish, unappealing, white head. Smell: What a stink we have here! It’s Skunk and it’s Metal and together they’re Skunk & Metal. Taste: Blargh. Sweet, careless, cheerless malt taste. Then, in leeches some skunk and then an unpleasant, sidewalk coinnage metallic taste. Beyond lacking alcohol, I’d say it’s also lacking hops if it weren’t for that skunky, light-struck hop taste. Lastly, it’s a curtain call of icky flavors on the finish. Mouthfeel: Ultra light body. Medium-light carbonation. Drinkability: A horrendous beer and a poor product all around, really. Why, it’s bad enough to drive one to drink!

330ml bottle from Sainsburys. Gold with a slight white head. heavy, corny malts dominated with no evidence of hops and a trying, bitter finish. Not special.

330 ml bottle. Pours a pale straw yellow with small white cap. Nose of corn/grain and skunkiness. Taste starts sweet and grainy (somewhat metallic) but ends with an unpleasant, skunky bitterness. What’s the point of this?

Bottle at McClarens. Uh - oh. As soon as the cap is off a warning blast of skunk spray assaults my nose. Taking a whiff closer to the bottle literally brings tears to my eyes and a reactive convulsion. I pour this into a glass. Boy, this is light. It’s stark yellow and easily see through, though probably not any paler than BMC light. The stench on this is utterly baffling. Yeah, it bears the painful, rotten stink of skunk, decaying hay bales. . .I would expect no less having sampled other offerings from Beck’s. What is sadly intriguing to me is an odd sweet note buried in the olfactory onslaught. I spend quite some time just smelling this liquid, making myself nauseous in the process, trying to relate it to something. It’s fruity, but not quite natural. Maybe like some kind of fruit cereal or fruit flavored sparkling water. It takes substantial effort to muster the courage necessary to override my survival instincts to actually place this damned liquid in my mouth. Relief sort of takes me over as I discover it’s merely horrible and undrinkable, not absolutely, completely, aggressively offending. I actually managed to choke down a good three or four sips, enough to verify beyond the shadow of a reasonable doubt that this swill tastes like trash and this substance is highly carbonic. I can safely say there will never be another time that I willingly ingest this monstrosity in any quantity. The verdict: this is woeful and strikes feelings of despair, revulsion, and confusion into the core of my being. However, it is actually not as aggressively offending as Beck’s Light.

Bottled. Poured clear, bright golden with a short, synthetic cap of white head.. I’ve seen worse. The aroma picked up sweet honey, corn, and a touch of straw, and it was really rather pleasant. The flavor had honeysuckle and pale malty sweetness at the core with a touch of artificial sweetener and spicy floral bitterness surrounded.. finished sweet with a soda-like impression. Light-bodied, sweet, and well-carbonated on the palate.. much, much better than expected.
