jaymobrown (1300), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 28, 2008 Got this at a neat Etheopian restaurant in Evanston. Overall, not really that great, but it went down rather smoothly. What’s the best to say about this beer? Well, it’s not going to make you gag or taste any off-putting flavors. It’s rather crisp and slightly bubbly. There’s some mild straw, hop flavors. Some yeast. The bad parts: well, it’s not very flavorful. It’s a workable beer; akin to a Miller Lite or Budweiser. Same class and functionality.
Tmoney99 (3636), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 6, 2008 Bottle at the Rendezvous, St. Augustine, FL. Poured clear straw color with an average frotthy white head that diminished quickly with fair lacing. Moderate sweet grainy aroma. Light to medium body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. Light sweet flavor with a light sweet finish of short duration. Another below average beer from this country. 1FastSTi (2402), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Jun 19, 2008 Bottle says something along the lines of Bedele Gold Label Special Beer Export and weighs in at 5.5%. Unfortunately I tried this beer only because it’s from Ethiopia - a country I’ve likely never consumed anything from before. Pours to a pale golden straw body with a thin creamy white head. The beer tastes/smells exactly the same with fake butterscotch and white bread. Something else randomly awful in each. Really hard to detect what that awfulness is. Palate is mediocre and non-offensive. Ick! I poured it down the drain. Beerlando (1352), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 6, 2008 The phrase "Ethiopian Pale Lager" isn’t exactly the most enticing term ever uttered, and with good reason. The pour yields a clear, medium-golden body with a quickly dissipating, fizzy white head. Aromas include ultra-sweet corn malts, dry straw, cereal grains, and a drop of honey. Flavors are predictably laden with sweet, creamed corn notes, honey, and dry, stale grains. Light bodied and moderately carbonated, with a sweet feel transitioning into a stale, lingering finish. This is pretty much what I was expecting.......pretty awful. PilsnerPeter (1477), Flushing, New York, USA Mar 12, 2008 Bottle: Generously provided by DSG: Thanks! Pours a slightly hazy golden with thin white head. Sweet pale malt aroma with a honeyish touch. The body isn’t that bad, decent carbonation without being too prickly or watery. Sweet pale malt flavor as well, with a honey like sweetness. Similar to the aroma. Doesn’t offer much bitterness, but what’s there is not all that bad. Drinkable.
