| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 3, 2009 50cl bottle from K&L Redwood City. Pours black in color with a huge brown head that strangely has two layers, a lower brown one and an upper tan one. Ridiculous retention. Aroma is roast, coffee, piney hops, and a hint of smoke. Flavor is very good, with all the characteristics of a roasty stout: roasted malt, caramel malt, coffee, and bitter chocolate, along with a blast of piney and resinous hops, maybe a little citrus too. Mouthfeel is very smooth and body is fairly full. Very nice beer overall. CaptainCougar (5520), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2009 Bottle: Pours an oily opaque with a large airy dark beige head. Has a fresh grapefruity resiny hop nose supported by sweet dark caramel malt and dark chocolate. Starts with pretty good fullness and dark malty sweetness with some roasted coffee bean notes and a nice balance of citrusy flavor and bittering hops. An enjoyable and dangerously drinkable hoppy dark ale.
