RBSG07. From bottle. Pours balck with a chocolate brown head. Aroma is VERY surprisingly hoppy in a orange fruity way with a malt sweetness beneath. Very nice. Flavour is sweet as first but goes very dry in an instant, after the first sip the sweetness starts to stick. Ending very dry malty and strong bitter hops, still slight floral.

Approximately 1.5 oz. sample at the Grand Tasting of the RateBeer Summer Gathering 2007 in the Twin Cities, MN on July 23, 2007. This was the eighteenth of 26 beers that I sampled and rated during the tasting. Surprisingly hoppy aroma. Hops dominate the malts in the smell. Dark chocolate and piney hops scents. Pours an opaque dark brown with an orange hue. Tan head and extensive lacing. Cool aroma and appearance. The flavor features dirty hops and roasted malts but an underlying sugar sweetness and a nice lemon-sour finish. Long, roasted coffee bitter aftertaste. Full body. Smooth and lively in the palate. A good beer all around.

RBSG 2007. Pours to a black body with dark brown hues. The head is fizzy and tan. The aroma is rife with cascade hops and chocolate malt. I like it. The flavor is bitter weedy hops, chocolate malts, creamy chocolate. The palate is bitter and creamy with resinous hops coming through and lingering.

22oz bottle from HiTime. Inky black and quite dense, with almost no carbonation. But the rich roasts and chocolate aromas instantly let you know this will be just dandy. Not quite as thick as some brews with similar profiles, this one is dank and lovely, with a strangely dry finish for such a chewy beer. Quite nice.
