In the bomber bottle thanks to bditty187. Pours black with no head. Chocolate roasted carob aroma. Super drying hop bitterness to the finish. Very parching to the tongue. Big roasted coffee, coffee, coffee! This beer is a bit unbalanced as it is not malt thick enough to support the giant roasted hops.

smells like oil and chocolate. The head could have been more attractive. The beer itself was rather brown and muddy. Flavors were rustic, chocolate, and most certainly exhibiting a hop presence, though nicely integrated into the profile as not to be unpleasantly bitter as some imperial stouts seem to be. There’s hints of chocolate covered fruit. The body is on the weaker side of something that is 11.5%, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. All in all, decent and certainly well crafted, but nothing stands out to make it exceptional.

Bottle courtesy of IBrew2or3. Pours a murky dark brown to black color with a thin tan head that leaves some lacing on the glass. Aroma is roasted and malty with notes of wood, vanilla, ripe dark fruit, dark chocolate, and hints of brandy and phenol. Flavor is roasted, malty and sweet with notes of chocolate, vanilla, ripe dark fruit, wood, and hints of smoke, coffee and toffee. Generally velvety texture with a pleasing and warming malty alcohol finish.

Bottle, courtesy Ibrew2or3 I think. Pours pitch black with distant reddish highlights, creamy tan head and bubbly lacing. Nose has some soy, but dry smoky roast, caramel, big toast. The roast is really prominent. Very smooth flavors, creamy chocolate malt, big roasted finish, and tons of toast and caramel. Smooth full body, rich and complex.

Bottle courtesy of tasting group. Pours a dark red/ cola brown with tan head. Nose is dark malt, vanilla, slight dark chocolate, licorice, and roasted coffee. Flavor is dark malt, licorice, coffee bitterness, slight phenol burn, and some vanilla. It is enjoyable once we spent some time together. In an evening of a few stouts this one stood out.

Bottle courtesy of Dogbrick sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. Pours black with a thin tan head. Syrupy and sorta tart nose. Dry coffee flavor up front with a slight boozy finish. Pretty good overall.

Sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective Stout tasting on 01/16/09. Major points for the bottle art. Simply put, black pour with a thick creamy tan head. Booze in the nose, but not in a distracting way. Impressive mouthfeel with a heavy, rich and fullness to it that sets it apart from other impys. Finshes with the bitterness of raw coffee and dark chocolate and has an agressively bitter and lasting finish. Nom.
