Aroma of roasted malts hints on what is coming: flavours of smack in your face agressive malts, along with bitter coffee and chocolate. Nice bitter finish. Great stuff! fidel (1015), Livermore, California, USA

Flavors of dark chocolate, roasted malt, and a good pine flavor. Well balanced. Warm oak-like mouthfeel. Pretty good. raphael (421), Portland, Oregon, USA

Hearty aroma of roast malt, roadkill crow, and black coffee. dark with a dark head, a little thin in the mouth, though aromatic. good flavor pieces but dont all come together, a little oblique, the malt sweet is a little more balanced out by the roast than by hops. burnt finish, alcohol well concealed. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 8, 2008 Black with rather large deep beige head. Not that sweet aroma with plenty of hard roasted malt, coffee and chocolate notes. Flavour has hard roasted malt, dark bitter chocolate and hops that gives it a bitter finish. Like it for not beeing cloying sweet. Guerde (710), Welcome, Minnesota, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 5, 2008 (bottle, thanks Sparky27!) Pours out jet black with a light tan head that retains nicely. Aroma is a blend of mostly piney hops, (although a light grapefruit peel is detected), and cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and dark roasted coffee. The taste is very chocolate-forward to begin with, but changes to dark roasted coffee near the finish. The finish is still somewhat bitter and dry from the abundant hops. The mouthfeel is very smooth and full. I remember having this beer at a previous tasting, and found it to be rather harsh and abrasive. This was an aged bottle, so the flavors seem to have mellowed and meshed, which makes it far more enjoyable. timsilvia32 (447), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 3, 2008 Updated: Oct 13, 2008Black/dark brown pour. Dark cream head that remained for quite a while. Lacing throughout the beer. Burnt and roast malts, baker chocolate aromas. Almost creamy mouthfeel, but enough bittering coffee and hops to keep it a bit more lively than creamy. Tastes similarly with very roasty malt and coffee. Some chocolate and very little dark fruit and charcoal. Quite full bodied. Alcohol very well hidden. Very good example of the style, without add ons like barrel aging.
