bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Feb 10, 2004 Draft. Dark amber color. Very thin tasting and not much else to it. The best thing about it is it's appearance. Volgon (2487), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jan 5, 2004 On tap in Salem, labled Marblehead Mild. Deep amber with a thin head, sweet malty aroma, funky sweet aftertaste, light bodied. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jan 5, 2004 Deep amber in color with a small white head.Sweet and malty, with virtually no hop presented. ravidesai (915), Bombay, India Jun 5, 2003 nice dark bready mild.
underhopped and a pleasantly sweet caramel malt flavour comes through. ericnixon (719), Northampton, Massachusetts, USA Apr 6, 2003 Dark in color, with a creamy taste. i liked this one a lot. although, i only tried the sampler. Sammys (428), Portland, Maine, USA Sep 25, 2002 Cask version: This was a lot different than the kegged version, and I generally agree with Nutfield, that it was a much creamier and smoother beer. However, the drastic temperature difference between the two might make it hard to make a complete side by side comparison (cask beers generally being warm).
Keg version: Good as far as mild’s go I suppose, something which my lower than normal rating might reflect. I find it hard to objectively judge styles that I generally don’t care for though. My suggestion is to try it yourself, perhaps do what I did and get it in a 4oz sampler. (keg rating 3.0) Nuffield (2718), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Sep 10, 2002 Cask version: It was nice to have this side-by-side with the non-cask version: there ARE differences between these two. Much smoother, creamier, with a frothy and substantial head. Although, the carbonation is too intrusive here. Still, some nice flavors emerging (as with the non-cask Mild).
Keg version: Little aroma (true to form for a mild) but on tasting there’s something nice going on here. I wouldn’t call it maltiness, but there are caramel overtones. Served too cold. Hint of red in the color. Keg rating 2.7
