Beer Works Beantown Nut Brown Ale

A dark brown ale with a thin light moka head. Light nutty malt aroma, a bit of fusel alcohol and burned wood. In mouth, a good burned roasted malt, very nutty, maybe of bit of autolyzed yeast off flavours. On tap at BBW, Logan airport, July 19 2009.

16 oz draught at Fenway location. Slightly cloudy light brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma of brown sugar, almonds and bread. Nice even taste of sweet sugar, roasted malt and faint coffee. Solid brown, one of the better from Beer Works.

Had a quick sample of this at the Fenway location. Pours a translucent, dark brown with ruby edges and a creamy white head. Aroma was faint, some nutty malts, crackers, slightly sweet. Flavor is similar, sweet and chewy, nutty, bready. Finish is watery. Forgettable.

(Draught) Pours a mahogany body with a medium creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. Flavor chocolate, roasted malt, and caramel.

On Tap At Fenway brew pub. Poured a dark brown with a small head. Had a strong bad aroma. Smelled as if there was a bacteria issue. Taste was very sour, maybe they should call it a belgium brown ale. Could not finish the glass.

Page 70 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide and I had this at the Boston Fenway Park location. This might be the best Brown Ale I have had and I even ordered a second one. Only 156 of MJ’s 500 Classic Brews to go.

On tap at brew pub. Not bad but my least favorite of some great beers I tried. A bit sweet and lacking a real nutty backbone.

Tap at Fenway location. Pours a deep dark brown with a decent head and some lace. Aroma is light coffee, nutty chocolate and some light solvent. More dark chocolate in the flavor, toasted malts, nutty, light pineyness, caramel malts, and a thin body and weak aftertaste.
