Commercial Description:
Originally brewed to celebrate Salem's 5th Anniversary! Rich, deep blonde color and biscuity malt character with a hint of rummy sweetness. Complex flavors of pear, apple, and banana result from our special blend of three Belgian yeast strains. Cheers!

Draft at the brewpub. Poured a clear gold color with a white head. Smelled of clove and subdued banana. Light bodied and delicately sweet with a hint of warming alcohol. As with the aroma, clove trumped banana in the flavor. There was also a bit of cereal grain. Not bad.

Sampled this on tap at the Fenway location. Pours a clear, straw yellow with a big, frothy white head. Aroma has tropical fruits, some bubble gum and slight spice. Flavor has more bubble gum, more tropical fruits, some booze and a little grass. Finish is hot from the alcohol and very fizzy. A little weird and maybe a touch over done on the alcohol.

Fresh, cold growler: Pours a crystal clear dark golden color with a small amount of alabaster bubbles that quickly dissolve and leave a touch of lacing and a ring. Aroma is of rich bread, a mix of fruits, light spices and crisp grass. Taste is of well blended grains and subtle, grassy hops. Light to medium bodied and crisp with good carbonation. Ending is of grassy hops sliding into notes of bread, fruit and light spices, particularly lemon and white pepper. Alcohol is well hidden in this fabulous blonde ale. I am looking forward to trying more of the beer selection from Beer Works. Thanks DM! :)

Draught tulip at Fenway location, 6/29/06.
Modestly hazy, very pale blonde ale with a slight shimmering gold aura about it. Dense, but small, white head is moderately retained, though does eventually fade to ring, leaving a fair amount of lacing as it recedes.
Clean Belgian golden ale yeast in the nose shows very light fruit esters (apricots, nectarines, lemons) and hints of saaz and/or EKGs provide a hint of perfuminess to match the esters, but a touch more leafy dryness as well. Waxy, very pale, almost lager-like malts are lightly sweet in the nose and show off a touch of vanilla and mushy graham cracker. Alcohol warmth on the end.
Very straightforward, Duvel-like flavors include lemon cake with vanillla icing, hints of honey and a touch of graininess. Light acidity from the yeast is mostly masked by the malt, as light esters and some soft white pepper-like phenols spice up the finish. Light alcohol dryness/warmth, but no raw fusels. Texture is light, bubbly, though not watery, while the carbonation could certainly be tightened.
