This seemed to be something just put on offer, as it was on one of the rotating wipe-off placards. Unsure of its full history of why its a "cellar reserve". Excellent with a solid dinner I imagine. Silky palate, some hops tangible to give you meaning to your night, a good batch here. Earlier Rating: 10/8/2004 Total Score: 1.8 Thought this was a bit pasty and hard to go down. Good dark color, but whatever taste that’s attempted to be added here kind of torpedoes the beer. A disappointment from Boston Beer Works. DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA

Bread malts here, interesting fruit notes, low levels of cardboard in the aftertaste. A fairly well-balanced, easy-going amber. ericnixon (719), Northampton, Massachusetts, USA

Nice reddish color with a nice malty flavor, but it was very watery which kind of ruined this beer for me. Kinda crappy since it was my 500th. Oh well. Earlier Rating: 4/6/2003 Total Score: 3.9 The Boston Red had quite the dark reddish color with a taste that was wicked hoppy. openwindow (67), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

Didn’t find anything to dislike about this one, but didn’t think it was anything special either. agree with poster below that it was a bit of a disappointment, and certainly not as good as some of the other beers available.
