Initially very carbonated and served much too cold for a stout, which distracted from taste immensely! Nearly opaque black. Flavors became much more apparent after warming: delicate oatmeal accent tickled the back of my tongue, which was most distinguishing feature of this brew. Slightly sweet in a Hershey’s-esque way. For lack of a better term, an "oatey" aroma. Decent, but the folks here outside Fenway ought to serve stouts at the correct temperatures. rederic (1815), montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Apr 25, 2006 On tap at boston beer works on canal street, dark black color, with reddish highlights, with a creamy tan-colored head, the nose is winey, it looks like an infected beer, faint black coffee malt aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a winey, acidic, vinous accents, and note of tart fruitiness, leading towards a fruity winey finish. A very serious problem with this beer! ElPresidente1984 (173), Maine, USA

Black color with ruby edges. Heavily roasty in every way, a bit overly bitter and one dimesional in its coffee/espresso flavor. Lacking a creamy body. cfranz (261), Acton, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 12, 2005 On tap @ Fenway location. Good nose, nutty roasty. Nice fluffy head that lasted most of the way down. Clean dark brown color, though the lighting was kind of dark so hard to get good look at it. Bitter roasty flavors. Nutty, spicy, soapy, chocolate, toffee. Thinner bodied, creamy mouthfeel, finish has a little bite to it. Nice stout, easy to drink. I was trying to guess at the flavor I couldn’t place at the time. I think muzzlehatch’s tarragon is what I was getting at. barenada (211), Georgetown, Indiana, USA

More roasted malt flavor than I’m used to in this style, and I think that’s what saved it for me. beerbuzzmontreal (2931), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
