(Draught) I had this Bat Brew the night before Halloween in Salem, MA. Pours a dark brown body with a medium beige head. Aroma of roastiness, light lactose, and cocoa. Flavor of roasted malt, caramel, and chocolate.

Sample at the Fenway Park location. Not quite opaque dark molasses color, small bit of receding off-white head and no lacing...roasty-bitter black coffee and baker’s chocolate in the nose...in the body, thinness and a bit of oil, bland weak coffee grounds in a dried old cocoa bath, tepid water floats some hints of tarragon later but I don’t care.

On tap at the Fenway location, 5/9/2005. Dark black color, small, creamy white head, low retention. Aroma of black malt, oily roast, quite a good deal of lactic notes and some caramel. Flavor is oddly quite burnt, yet also incorporates the lactic quality. Oats give it a smooth mouthfeel, but there is a strange burnt rubber and chalkiness that don’t go well together. Dark, burnt hazelnuts, soured cream and a bit of sweet malt. Body was medium, with no real wateriness, but the flavor is just off.

Tap at fenway. Pours a deep brown almost blacok with a creamy head. Aroma of roasted malts, black charred almost smokey- light old coffee hints as well. More roast with nutty chocoalte malts, light sweetness, charred acrid burnt malts, and an astringent long finish.

On tap at the Salem location. Pours a deeper brown with lots of ruby highlights and a medium tan bubbly/creamy lacing head. Aroma was kidn of light with some roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Flavor of roasted malts, some coffee and bitter chocolate. This one had some hop flavor buried under all the roasty sweet malts which I enjoyed.

Draught at the brewpub. Opaque brownish black with a tan head that laced the glass. Smelled of chocolate and light roast. delicate sweetness on the tongue. Full bodied with chocolate and light cream flavors. Yum.
