sayravai (3547), Helsinki, Finland Aug 31, 2006 (Bottled, 0.375l) Opaque, light red wine color with practically no head. Very berryish aroma of slightly sour cherries and hints of anchovies. Very distinctive, very natural, unsweetened cherry flavor - so far the most natural in any kriek I’ve had! Medium-bodied, medium-tart palate with very low carbonation. A truly beautiful, easily drinkable and enjoyable kriek!
Madsnp (290), Odense C, Denmark Jun 24, 2009 Tap @ W.O.S.F. Slight hazy deep red with no head. Fresh berry aroma with mild notes of cherry and almonds. Flavour is dry, weak, tart, cherry and wood. Oakes (7618), Bamberg, Germany Jun 21, 2009 Purplish red and flat. Light cherry with some balsamic stuff on the nose. Vinegary, with fresh cherry. Fairly full body but refreshing. Some candyish notes but this is not sweet, just juicy and fairly complex. Almost yoghurty in the finish, and a bit toasty as well. Beershine (2268), Bamberg, Germany Jun 11, 2009 WSF. Ruby colored, flat and viscous. Leathery aroma is bursting with rubber and cherries. Slick mouthfeel. Mmmm, it goes through layers. Starts tart, then goes yogurty, then ends nearly sweet. Nice. ChristianScheffel (3013), Odense, Denmark Jun 10, 2009 Slightly hazy deep red woith no head. Weak aroma of cherry and almond with a touch of funk. Dry and tart flavour with a little cherry, funk and wood. HogTownHarry (3673), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada May 22, 2009 Bottle (375ml). At MesandSim’s, London May 10 2009). Deep murky ruby pour with a small head. Mouthwatering aroma of sour black cherries, lemon, yeast and a backbone of caramel malt - mostly cherry. Huge sour cherry taste, lemony and funky, bitter, slightly alcoholic, very acidic and that suits me just fine. Sour, lively mouthfeel, long acidic linger - holy crap that was good - stunningly sour and quite complex - everything a kriek should be. Anker (207), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 11, 2009 Bottle shared by and tasted at Plan B. Thx!
Pours hazy red with a tiny and quickly disappearing pink head.
Aroma is a little tart but mainly cherries.
Flavour is smooth with bitter notes as well as cherries and almond.
A very pleasant mouthful! JCB (1534), Durham, North Carolina, USA Feb 10, 2009 Bottle shared by OldStyleCubFan at Pre-Sex - thanks, Todd! Lovely aroma that is quite woody and funky, just the ticket when in the mood for a brew like this. The body is amazingly lively, with a bright reddish hue that doesn’t seem artificial in the slightest but rather the result of intense cherry additions. While the brew is strong and acidic, it’s somehow quite an easy-drinking kriek. Really nice. kramer (2292), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 30, 2008 375 ml bottle, via bu11zeye. Pours a beautiful pink red body with a wispy pink head that ran to a thin ring. A great sour note of vinegarette on the nose, nice woody and pitty notes, great sour cherry. The flavor is nicely tart and sour, bone dry, very pitty and woody, with some excellent lambic funk, slightly cheesy. Mouthfeel is bone dry with great fine lively carbonation. Long lingering vinegary finish. Not quite as sour as many Cantillons, but clearly among the best Krieks that I’ve had. I wish that this were available in the US!
