Reddish orange ale with a thin off white head. Aroma of Brettanomyces, herbs, peppermint, quite interesting. In mouth, a rather leathery barley wine, with notes of menthol, belgian hops. Smooth and interesting. A Belgian barley wine. Enjoyed with the Mtl Crew Sept. 9, 2006.

This dark amber ale poured with a thin off-white head. The malt and hop flavors blend perfectly to provide a balanced base. The smoky whiskey flavor derived from the oak bourbon barrell further enhances the enchanting flavor of this superb brew. This is a warm, complex beer that serves well as an after dinner drink or a cigar companion.

I really, really enjoyed this beer. Kudo’s to Beerman’s for making an EXCELLENT beer. A dark chocolately brown body with a hazy, smokyness to it. The aroma was oaky, vanilla, earthy, whiskey, and some hops. Mouthfeel on this was incredibly smooth and satisfying, not a hint of the alcohol could be found. The complexity of this beer is intensely satisfying as you try to figure out all the different flavors bouncing about in your mouth. Is there vanilla, brown sugar, bourbon, smoke, caramel, hops. The finish is oh’so satisfying. Nicely done fellas!

On tap at Toronado BW-fest 2/29/06. Poured a nice amber color with little to no head. Good malty aroma with strong bourbon notes. Flavor of malt and vanilla with a kick of bourbon at the end. Warming alcohol character, but not too dominant in the flavor. A very good barley wine!

Dark reddish-amber colour. Warm aroma of malts and an unusual, strong gingerbread cookie note. Strong, burning alcohol with heavy but simple malt notes. Nothing special but certainly a drinkable BW.

Bottled. Clear ruby. Rich toffee aroma. Sweet with plenty of butterscotch, light oakiness and some bourbon flavour. Very malty with mild flavours and some alcohol coming through in the finish. I like the way the hops are subdued leaving room for the malt flavours.

Bottled. This is a hand-bottled beer from a group tasting a while back. I don’t know how old it is. Smells of dark fruits and old hops (which I don’t necessarily think is bad in a style like this). It also seems like alcohol. Flavor is a bit thin and consists of bourbon, vanilla, oak and dark fruits. There is just a bit of alcohol warmth but it’s not a huge component of the taste.
