Nice bright golden colour. Really nice aroma - some honey sweetness, fruity/grassy hops, and fresh bread. Flavour starts with some biscuity malt, develops some nice sweetness in the middle, and had a long, well-hopped finish. A really nice surprise for something I picked up completely at random. Shared with blankboy, GregClow and Tupalev, bottle courtesty of GregClow. Okay, I don’t care much for pale lager - but if they were all like this one, I would drink it more often. Poured clear deep gold with a thin bubbly white head. Aroma - whoa! - quite a bit of fresh lemon-grapefruit resiny hops, only a touch of malt, some oil, cedar and yeast. Taste started mildly malty, then quickly gave way to strong citrusy hops; had a longish finish, hop-bitter but pleasant, black pepper overtones on warming added character. Mouthfeel astringent, a bit oily, average body. Very pleasant, well-made brew - leaned a little too far to the hop side, but nice - and a nice change. Would buy it if readily available here. dwyerpg (2537), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

(Their hefe and honey beers, a style I am not fond of, are far above average for their style). Its not real tasty and the head is atrocious. Oh well - I say you can’t judge a brewery by its lager. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 9, 2005 This beer pours a mild golden yellow color with fairly active carbonation, a thin white head, and mild to little lacing. The aroma is citrusy and hoppy with little malt and sweet presence. Some bread and grassy effect in there as well. The flavor is medium bodied and finishes fairly dry. Amazing how much flavor there was here given the lightness of the beer! Bread and grassyness are apparent, but so is the yeasty fruityness. Light "hayfield" flavor, very mellow and light on the carbonation surprisingly. Sweet fruity flavors came out of nowhere as it warmed. Ever-so-slightly sticky finish, perhaps a ginger hint as well. Good mouthfeel, an interesting summerish staple beer and the first true Helles that has my attention. SDbruboy (1832), San Diego, California, USA

Pours golden and clear with a large white head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is sweet and fruity for a lager, actually seems a bit more ale-like, ripe peach, floral notes and a hint of bubble gum. Flavor is also sweet, mellow biscuity malts, a bit of citrus and nice earthy and floral hoppiness with a nice spicy character as well. Light to medium body and assertive carbonation. Pretty good - far better than expected. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 31, 2005 12 bottle. Poured golden yellow with decent head. The head shifted to a nice ring of suds that left lacing the whole glass. Aromas were hoppy and slightly sweet. Which made the dry finish a bit of a suprise. Flavors of malt and some very nice bitterness. A little spicey flavor as well. A very fresh beer. One of few lager type beers I have found to like. Kasteelfreak (341), Fallbrook, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2005 Sudsy head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is very slightly sweet with some grass and pepper. Flavor is slighlty sweet with a little pepper. slightly grainy finish. It is what it is, and most importantly, it doesn’t have any funky off flavors. Good unoffensive lager. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 21, 2005 A decent Lager. Pours a nice golden color with a rather thin head. Easy drinking, available at a good price at Trader Joe’s. I would most definitely drink it again, but I don’t think I’d go out of my way for it.
