Flavor is mostly sweet. Nice full bodied ale. Alcohol leaves the brew tasting a bit hot. DrunkAsASkunk (847), Lynnwood, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 29, 2003 Thanks to beerguy101 for the beer...This one poured a dark ambery red color with a mild pearl head and a nice degree of carbonation. The aroma definitely has hops and caramel malts dancing all over the place...some dark fruitiness is also apparent. The taste begins with a heavy caramel sweetness with a faint chocolateyness. Definite citrusy ending...mixed well with caramel sweetness in the bite. Alcohol is not an issue here..very well hidden..perfect level of carbonation, and perfect level of sweetness. The bittering aspect is what i find lacking a bit here..i would like to find more of a contrasting element in this one..but nonetheless it turns out to be a damn good brew. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 1, 2003 Med red color. Large head. Aroma is roasted malts, caramel and chocolate. A full bodied Red Ale. Big flavored chocolate and caramel malts. Hops are bold, bitter and grapefruity. This is a pretty aggressive beer, yet there is some smoothness to it as well. Interesting red ale. Mouthfeel is full and creamy. Finish is dry. Aftertaste is bitter. Braudog (3776), Dayton, Ohio, USA

Then there’s a wonderful party of caramel, a hint of chocolate, and just the right bite. Lots of different things in one beer. Outstanding specimen. geofflilley99 (6), Sacramento, California, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 14, 2002 Pretty darn aggressive beer. Malty, bitter, and unyielding to the last drop. Agree with Shadallion about the inherent pathetic quality of the ’red ale,’ but this actually gives a sorry excuse for a category a good name. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 21, 2001 Is it just me, or is it weird that this is the top two ambers I have run across in the past week? This is up there with mogollon amber. Pours to a mountainous, rocky head which has stick power like a champ. Hoppy and fruity nose, strong and rich, lasting bitterness like biting a hop leaf, creamy mouthfeel, which finishes semi-dry and somewhat grainy.
