IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Feb 15, 2007 Draft at the Bistro DIPA Fest; nose of flowery and citrusy hops; hazy amber with a small offwhite head; flavor of citrus hops with a little caramel. smcd (366), USA Mar 20, 2006 (22oz Bottle. 03/2006) Aroma on pineapple -- with just a hint of cakiness. Hazy orange with off-white head that dissipates to thin film, but leaves good lace. Quite bitter tastes. Citrusy, like a grapefruit rind that lingers considerably in the aftertaste. Medium-full bodied with decent mouthfeel and nice carbonation. While the alcohol is not immediately apparent, this (mine is a 10.5% variety) is very warming. Oakes (8058), gone rambling, Vietnam Feb 14, 2006 Hazy amber colour. Light fruity hop aroma. Massive bitterness. Vague woody hop flavours, some caramel sweetness and alcoholic dryness. Overall, though, I’d be looking for a brighter, more distinctive hop character in such a hop-forward beer. As it stands, it’s not really going anywhere special for me. omhper (12154), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 14, 2006 Updated: Apr 5, 2006Bottled. Hazy amber. Strong grapefruity hop aroma. Surprisingly dry and light, making it dangerously drinkable. Heavily hoppy with clean mouthfeel and strikingly bitter finish. More easy going than interesting, but certainly a worthwile effort. GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Feb 7, 2006 I was slightly dissatisfied with this IPA. It wasn’t bad, but it just didn’t blow my kilt up at all like I was expecting. Pours a golden color with a medium head. Lots of hops and citrus and lemons in the aroma but it was toned down considerably for a Impy IPA. I think the malt sweetness was a bit overpowering that the hop bitterness, so this round the malt won. Finish is quick, clean and tasty. Average for an Imp. IPA with room for improvement. beerguy101 (3861), Newark, California, USA Feb 8, 2004 Medium gold color. Large white foamy head. Aroma is citrus and a touch floral. A medium bodied double IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruit and citrus, touch of floral. Nicely balanced, Slightly sweeter than most imperial IPAs as the malt sweetness is a little stronger than the hop bittrness. Hides the 8.8% ABV very well. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
