Cask Handpump at the New Oxford, Salford 17/03/2008 Fruity and a little roast aroma. Small tan head. Dark red coloured smooth on the palate and fruity with a crisp dry and slightly bitter roast finish.

Cask, Hinckley 08. Inky, headless and still. Red pepper, ash, coal smoke and coffee aroma. Lactic tang, cocoa and smoke. Festival splash of sourness. Lingers nicely, but a bit feeble-bodied and not wholly convincing. More chocolate as it warms. Won me over.

Cask@Newark Beer Festival, 2008. Black beer with a lightly roasted aroma, and a roasted and lightly dry flavour. Overall a reasonable dark beer.

Cask, gravity, at Cambridge Beer Festival ’08. Very dark brown. A slight chocolate aroma. Pleasant sweet coffee taste with some late bitterness. But that’s about it.

Bottle. Black with a cappuccino head. Aromas are earthy roast coffee with lactose. Herbal and smoky with liquorice. Flavours are chocolate and coffee malts with yeast, light berries and some herbal notes. Lightly bitter and prickly on the finish. Good.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Leicester BF. A black ber with a smoky roasty fruity pleasant aroma. The taste is dry with burnt malts and a little fruit. A shortish finish but some good flavours.

Cask at the Leicester Beer Festival. This was named the best stout of the festival and it was very good, especially impressive coming from a brewery that’s only been in operation for a few weeks. It’s got a rich palate and a smoky aroma. The flavour is full on roasted coffee and caramel with a delightful smoky quality. Definitely moreish.
