I don’t know whether I had a skunky draft or if this beer is totally crap, but I tasted a citrusy and acidic undertone with this beer - a characteristic that shouldn’t be in oatmeal stouts. | 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 5/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Mar 1, 2009 The only thing i taste here is alcohol- no cinnamon, oatmeal or anything else exciting. Kind of like an oatmeal version of the old Rasputin. Meanwhile, probably the most beautiful head I have seen in a while. njbfr (107), New Jersey, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 25, 2009 Pours nearly black with a HUGE brown head. Aroma is pretty heavy coffee with a slight hint of roasted oat. Flavor is excellent. Not as overpoweringly sweet as you would expect and the sweetness that it does have is balanced nicely with the roasted character of the malt and oats. Bitter coffee aftertaste begs to be refreshed by another sip. Pretty smooth finish too. Little to no lacing though. Very, very solid. TheBeerBaron (219), Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 25, 2009 Dark chocolate color with a thick brown head. Its opaque so you cant see any bubbles through the fog. Looks thick and rich. Sweet malt aroma overpowers your senses. Carib chocolate tones of aroma as well but its the malt that grabs you. Flavor is matly with the oatmeal that bears the namesake of this beer. But the taste isn’t overly sweet thanks to a superb hop taste. Considering this is a black porter the palate is pleasantly light and quenching. As compelling and varied as a Samuel Smith’s but homegrown and less expensive. Keeper. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 11, 2008 [bottle - 12 oz] Dark brown pour with a puffy and lasting tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasty with lots of malt, coffee, toasted notes, and dark fruits I believe. Very roasty in the flavor at the beginning. Lots of toasted malts and coffee begin the flavor with a lightly sweet chocolate middle and a very bitter and roasted finish and aftertaste. Incredibly fizzy which was quite a shock for the first sip. Good alcohol burn. markwise (1200), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA
